Meet Norman - ADOPTION PENDING!!
NORMAN HAS AN ADOPTION PENDING!! WE, THEREFORE, WILL NOT BE PROCESSING ANY OTHER APPLICATIONS FOR HIM.Meet little Norman - Our best assessment (NO GUARANTEE) is that Norman is currently about 4 months old and appears to primarily be an Aussie mix.So how did Stormin' Norman get that crazy name you ask? Well, he was picked up from a local shelter in an unlikely NC snow storm. When we got the call that an underweight and unsocial pup was found in the woods cold and wet, we were on the way and loaded him in to a warm car. First on the agenda was a bath. He was unsure but enjoyed the warm water and being clean, always watching foster mom and complying. Days 1-5 were just getting to know each other. Mom would sit with him and talk and each day get a little closer and a give a few more loves. Day 6, snow again and this time he felt good. He knew he was going to be let in to a warm house with snacks and dinner, and, boy, did he open up. We saw the little play bows, dodging and that Aussie butt wiggle. Some things are hard to forget though. At the end of the day, he found a spot in a pile of leaves and laid down to sleep. But, with just a nudge, he happily headed in with the pack. So far, he can entertain himself or play with his foster siblings. He is smart, learned his name and crates when asked. He has met the dog walker and does well once he is confident they are friends. He is a work in progress but doing great. Stay tuned for updates on Norman or apply if you see the little gem we do. He is up-to-date on core vaccines, dewormed, current on flea preventative, and can be microchipped! ____________________________________________________________________**If you are interested, YOU NEED TO APPLY. YOU CANNOT MEET OUR RESCUE ANIMALS UNTIL YOU HAVE BEEN APPROVED TO ADOPT. WE CANNOT CONSIDER YOU UNTIL YOU HAVE SUBMITTED THE FULLY FILLED OUT SAFE AT LAST ON-LINE ADOPTION APPLICATION. Thank you for your interest.(Sorry, we will not respond to generic "check the box," "Is s/he available," "Can you give me more information" inquiries.) NYS Rescue Registry No. RR 087
Adoption Process
The adoption process will begin with an extensive adoption application, accessible on our website. In addition to a series of questions (e.g., to ascertain the adopter's likes/dislikes, lifestyle, and general suitability), the application will require, among other things, a veterinary reference and two personal (non-family member) references. In lieu of a veterinary references, we will require 3 personal references. We will also require submission of digital photos of home and yard, as well as a home visit. Approved adopters will be required to take their pup or dog to the vet within 7 days of adoption. Each animal adopted from Safe At Last will go home with a medical booklet, complete with all details of vetting done prior to adoption, with explicit instructions as to the follow up required. All animals will be UTD with all age appropriate shots prior to adoption, and barring any health reasons that would preclude it, they will be placed on topical protection for fleas/ticks, and based on age, also started on heartworm preventative (or provided with the first dose). Any animals older than 4 months will be spayed/neutered before adoptions. For animals under 4 months old, the adoption contract will require spay/neuter by the time the animal is 6 months of age. We will require proof of same and will assign one of our members to have the task of following up on proof of spay and neuter. Under the contract, the adoptive family will not "own" the animal until we have received proof of spay and neuter. Failure to have the surgery performed will allow us, under the contract, to reclaim the pet.
