Schnauzer Rescue of the Carolinas, Inc.

SRC begain in June, 2003 when after being bedridden for more than 4 years with Lupus (SLE) I went into remission. Being able to function again yet not work outside the home, I wanted to give back as I had always been in public service so I started SRC to repay my precious Mini Schnauzer (Chewie) for being such a faithful companion during my time of being bedridden. He had even laid on my head during blinding migraines! Since that time SRC has flourished and we have been blessed to have placed more than 2500 Schnauzers and Honorary Schnauzers in loving adoptive homes! Each one stays in a loving foster home and comes from trauma of horrible conditions! They are so glad to be rescued from the horror of puppy mills and kill facilities and with time and understanding become fantastic pets! SRC also publicly promotes spay/neuter for all animals and works to educate the public on the desperate need for this policy. We work to do micro-chip clinics to help the elderly be able to keep their dogs healthy despite their lack of income. We also work to place adult dogs with senior adoptive parents. I believe this is my calling and plan to spend the remainder of my lifetime in service to this worthy mission.

Meet HARRISON (OWNER PLACEMENT ONLY--EMAIL OWNER)

My name is HARRISON (HARRY) and I weight approximately 50 pounds. My mom says that I have a huge personality and lots of love to give!  I am  please email my current mom at: "[email protected]"   .   just over 2  years old . I am micro-chipped, have all my vaccinations, been  neutered  and my current owner is getting ready to move and cannot take me with her.  My young life has been full of chaos already so it takes time for me to adjust to trusting new people.  My current "mom" lets me sleep in the bed with her and we get along well.  She understands my need for time to adjust and gave that time to me. She was my second home and although we get along well, she realized that she needed to place me in a good home since she needed to move and I could not go with her.  All was going well and I was placed in what she thought was a loving home but that person kept me for a month and then rather than return me to my "mom" she turned me over to Animal Control and I ended up in a Shelter!  Fortunately I am Micro-chipped so my loving mom was notified and she picked me up immediately!  Still it was obvious that my stay with this person had not been what was expected. I enjoy car rides, love my crate, and love to play in the water. I am very intelligent and know several commands. I am leash trained and house broken.  I have lots of energy so I need someone who will give me exercise. I do get along well with other dogs, still I need to be introduced to them properly.  I have a high-prey drive so cats are out of the question. My new home should understand that I have had situations that make me less than trusting at this point, so my new family should be patient and give me time to allow me to adjust.  A fenced yard would be preferred.   If you would like to know more about me,      In order to give me a new home, you will need to have a phone interview      with my current "mom" plus provide the phone number for your vet so      that she may check a vet reference.  In addition photos of your residence      will  be required.

Adoption Process
Our adoption process includes an application which is reviewed, then a vet and or personal reference. If this is satisfactory, then an informal home visit is conducted -- when this is approved an adoption contract is reviewed and signed. A tax deductible donation is requested which seldom covers the medical charges of the canine which has been readied for its new home. Each rescued dog is also evaluated for a minimum of 2 weeks prior to adoption and its medical needs are met, sometimes to include restoring vision when they have juvenile cataracts, removing bladders stones, doing dentals, micro-chipping, etc.
