Best Friend Pet Adoption

Best Friend Pet Adoption (BFPA) is a no-kill animal rescue organization based in central North Carolina. BFPA has no building, office, or shelter. We are an all-foster network committed to helping dogs and cats in need of homes. Individual donations are our most important source of income as we receive no public funding. Our purpose is to provide medical assistance, foster homes, and adoption services to previously lost, abandoned, abused, or neglected animals in Wake County, NC and the surrounding counties. Our mission is to educate this disposable society in which we live that every life should be valued and cherished and is directly linked to human responsibility and commitment.Almost all the animals we rescue require immediate medical attention. BFPA never turns away or euthanizes an animal because of the expense involved in returning them to good health. All our rescued animals are evaluated for temperament, examined by a veterinarian, vaccinated, microchipped (if possible) and sterilized, if age appropriate. Cats and dogs receive monthly flea/tick preventative and dogs also receive monthly heartworm preventative. The most important ingredients we provide to these animals are loving care and a safe haven -- something most of them have never experienced. These cats and dogs live in volunteer foster homes until we find them a loving permanent home, however long it takes. We match these precious beings to a single, couple or family who understand cats and dogs should be full participating members of the family. Our hope is that these animals never have to experience being unloved again.Since our beginning, BFPA has rescued and placed over 2,500 cats and dogs into their forever homes.BFPA was created in 1998 by two Raleigh-area women who had volunteered with other established rescues in the Triangle. Their dedication to help homeless dogs and cats has led to an organization that has grown to over 225 volunteers strong.BFPA received 501(c)(3) status in 1999.

Meet Pumpkin

NOTE: Pumpkin is a courtesy listed dog. She is not a part of Best Friend Pet Adoption. We are helping to find a new home for her and hope you will consider adopting her. You must contact her owner directly. Please contact Ruth at  [email protected]  if you are interested in Pumpkin.  Meet Pumpkin! A beautiful 35 lb Foxhound who is 4-5 years old spayed female. She is not crated but can be allowed to free roam if the room is puppy proofed.  She is not destructive to furniture, etc. and will usually keep herself occupied with chew items.  She will ride in the car but won’t jump in by herself. She is housebroken and walks well with her harness and loves to sniff. Pumpkin has never met an adult, child or other dog she didn’t love. She is very friendly.  She has not been cat tested so we are not sure how she will do living with a cat.   As she is a foxhound, she is a bit vocal at times when she has something to say. She does howl on occasion so would probably not be suitable for apartment living. A nice secure fence or enclosure outside would be nice for her sun bathing and relaxing. She has moderate energy level. She loves to play with her toys and can entertain herself. Pumpkin can be left home alone but probably not for 8-10 hours. She could be an only dog if she has enough daily enrichment but would probably prefer a playmate. She is more submissive than dominant.  She is very sweet, extremely smart and very food motivated. She loves to cuddle and sleep with you. She has had a lot of obedience training and picks up commands rather quickly. Pumpkin would be wonderful for scent training too as she has already had the basics.     Please consider giving Pumpkin her loving forever home.  Contact her owner at [email protected] .    Pumpkin is a courtesy listed dog.  This means that she is not a part of or associated with Best Friend Pet Adoption (BFPA). The bio information listed for her was provided by her owner and not generated or verified by BFPA. Adoption arrangements will be a private arrangement between you and the owner.  As with any dog adoption, BFPA encourages potential adopters to gain as much information as possible before adopting. This includes temperament testing and verification of vet records to ensure the dog is in good health, UTD on vaccinations and has been sterilized.

Adoption Process
All adoptions begin with a trial period of at least 2 weeks before the adoption is finalized. Anyone interested in adopting completes an on line application which must be approved by our adoption coordinator. Process includes reference and vet record checks. All animals must be up to date on all vaccinations, spayed/neutered and microchipped before adoption trial. Fee is $250 for dogs, $115 for cats.
