Freedom German Shepherd Rescue

We are a group of volunteers that are dedicated to saving the lives of German Shepherds and German Shepherd mixes. We all work in a variety of disciplines to include medical, financial, animal welfare and corporate. What bonds us is our love for all dogs, specifically German Shepherds. We've all volunteered for other 501c nonprofit rescues and feel the dogs are best served by all of us working together. We all strongly feel that there are too many unwanted, abused and neglected animals that we want to work together, with shelters and the community, to help reduce the epidemic through saving the dogs and educating the public.

Meet Azriel

Call me Azriel (or Az for short)! I am 44 pounds and about 9 months old, but my life really started in December, when nice people found me hiding under a house and took me in. I was very scared at first, but quickly learned that home is a safe place and that there’s so much to love in life. I adore playing with my foster brother! I also love all the toys, mealtime(!!!), water bowls, chewing on ice, and snuggling with both humans and dogs. I love these things so much that even that thing they call “the cone” didn’t keep me from having fun; quite the contrary – if I got the toys inside the cone, they magically stayed next to my mouth. I also love just laying close to my foster mom in the office.  I am house trained and making progress with my crate training. I am slowly learning what is appropriate behavior, but I do need to be crated if no humans are around. I'm still working on my leash manners but again, I am learning!  At night I sleep in the bedroom with my foster parents and human brother. I would love to spend the night in bed, but I have learned to sleep in my own bed by their side.  I am still scared of being left alone, so I would really like to live in a house with another playful dog. I have a strong prey drive, so I will not do well in a house with cats. I love children but would do best in a house with older kids, as I am still learning not to jump or chase (are kids not puppies?). As a young pup eager to discover life, I have a good amount of energy and I am not sure it will really go away. I am a happy puppy at home as long as I get regular walks, runs, playtime with dogs or fetch sessions several times a day. An at least 4 foot fenced-in backyard would make life easier. I still get overwhelmed by crowds and dogs I don’t know, so I need someone who understands that I need more confidence and slow introductions.  Until then, I am looking for my forever home. My ideal adopter will be patient,  continue my training and build up my confidence, so I can grow into the best big-boy I can be  If you are looking for a lifetime of love, snuggles, kisses and laughs and want to meet me, please contact your adoption coordinator.  If you do not yet have an adoption coordinator, please complete an adoption application at www.freedomgermanshepherdrescue.org   I am being fostered in Jacksonville, NC.

Adoption Process
All applicants must pass a vet check, phone interview and home visit in order to adopt. Once an applicant passes, they must sign an adoption contract where they agree to alter the dog by 6 months of age - if they are adopting a puppy, guarantee that the dog will receive proper vet care, food, water and exercise, and will return the dog to the rescue if they can no longer keep the dog for any reason. All dogs are microchipped prior to adoption, with Freedom GSR always remaining on the chip. The adoption fee is $250, adopters receive a 2 week trial period with the dog and if the adopter is found to be in violation of the contract, Freedom GSR will reclaim the dog. All dogs will not be adopted out until they are up to date on shots, free of heartworms and intestinal parasites and altered, if six months of age or older. If a puppy is adopted, the adoption contract stipulates that the puppy must be altered by the time s/he turns 6 months old.
