Freedom German Shepherd Rescue

We are a group of volunteers that are dedicated to saving the lives of German Shepherds and German Shepherd mixes. We all work in a variety of disciplines to include medical, financial, animal welfare and corporate. What bonds us is our love for all dogs, specifically German Shepherds. We've all volunteered for other 501c nonprofit rescues and feel the dogs are best served by all of us working together. We all strongly feel that there are too many unwanted, abused and neglected animals that we want to work together, with shelters and the community, to help reduce the epidemic through saving the dogs and educating the public.

Meet Luken - Adoption Pending

Hi there! My name is LUKEN and I’d like to tell you a bit about myself!  First off, I'm a strikingly handsome, very tall German Shepherd, between 1 and 2 years old. I'm still young enough to be a bit clumsy sometimes, which just adds to my charm (I think!). I’m a fun-loving, happy guy with a bark that’ll definitely make you take notice – it’s got some serious presence! I absolutely LOVE toys. Stuffed ones, noisy ones… honestly, I haven't met a toy I didn't like. If it squeaks, crinkles, or is cuddly, I'm all about it.  I have not been observed around children yet to know how I behave with them but suspect I would be too energetic around small tykes. I think I would enjoy a dog-savvy older child. The great news is that I’m a total good boy indoors. I'm house-trained and non-destructive when left on free roam of the house and I currently live with an ancient cat and another dog whose only complaint might be my energy level. Did I mention that I have a ton of energy? I hope you are ready for adventures and playtime!  I don’t need a fenced yard as I have zero interest in roaming, but a 4 foot fence might make your life easier to teach me to be the best doggo I can be! My biggest desire is to be right by your side, keeping a close eye on everything you do (consider me your personal supervisor!). I am super-smart and, having mastered the basics, I am eager to learn more. You could say I’m a blank canvas, ready for you to teach me what my job in life will be. If you're an active person or family looking for a loyal and energetic companion, please consider me! I promise to bring love, laughter, and loads of fun into your life. Couch potatoes need not apply If you are interested in adding me to your family, please reach out to your adoption coordinator.  If you don’t have an adoption coordinator you can fill out an application to adopt by visiting www.freedomgermanshepherdrescue.org . I am being fostered between Fayetteville and Wilmington, NC.

Adoption Process
All applicants must pass a vet check, phone interview and home visit in order to adopt. Once an applicant passes, they must sign an adoption contract where they agree to alter the dog by 6 months of age - if they are adopting a puppy, guarantee that the dog will receive proper vet care, food, water and exercise, and will return the dog to the rescue if they can no longer keep the dog for any reason. All dogs are microchipped prior to adoption, with Freedom GSR always remaining on the chip. The adoption fee is $250, adopters receive a 2 week trial period with the dog and if the adopter is found to be in violation of the contract, Freedom GSR will reclaim the dog. All dogs will not be adopted out until they are up to date on shots, free of heartworms and intestinal parasites and altered, if six months of age or older. If a puppy is adopted, the adoption contract stipulates that the puppy must be altered by the time s/he turns 6 months old.
