Meet Nellie - Adoption Pending
Hi friends! My name is Nellie and I’m looking for my forever home. I’m a gorgeous, playful, and intelligent 8 month old, 50 pound German Shepherd. I’m still growing but the humans say I’m going to be a big girl. I’m very social and I think every person I meet is my new best friend! I’m great with dogs of all sizes, kids and even dog savvy cats! I currently live with another dog and two kitties. I love following my canine foster sibling around and doing whatever she does. The kitties interest me at times, but I generally respect their boundaries and am easily corrected, if needed. I’m very food motivated and quickly pick up on new things. I’m very aware of the magical door where the treats come from in the kitchen and will happily taste test anything you give me. I enjoy car rides (especially to places that have pup cups) and going for walks. I am known to let out a groan or two when I find myself in a comfy sleeping position. That always makes my foster mom laugh. I like to play, I like to lounge and I like to go on adventures. I’m the total package! I don’t mind going in the crate when my foster mom leaves the house and I sleep without a peep at night. I know to go potty outside. I am working on basic obedience and will do whatever you want for that treat in your hand. Sometimes I can be a nervous Nellie ;) and seek confidence in my canine foster sibling. For that reason, my foster mom thinks I would do best in a home with another confident canine companion. I’m still just a puppy figuring out how to be a good citizen. My foster mom also says I have moderate energy and a fence is not a requirement but it would be great to stretch my legs off leash sometimes. If you’re ready to add Nellie to your family, reach out to your adoption coordinator. If you do not yet have an adoption coordinator, please complete an adoption application at www.freedomgermanshepherdrescue.org . Nellie is being fostered outside of Charlotte.
Adoption Process
All applicants must pass a vet check, phone interview and home visit in order to adopt. Once an applicant passes, they must sign an adoption contract where they agree to alter the dog by 6 months of age - if they are adopting a puppy, guarantee that the dog will receive proper vet care, food, water and exercise, and will return the dog to the rescue if they can no longer keep the dog for any reason. All dogs are microchipped prior to adoption, with Freedom GSR always remaining on the chip. The adoption fee is $250, adopters receive a 2 week trial period with the dog and if the adopter is found to be in violation of the contract, Freedom GSR will reclaim the dog. All dogs will not be adopted out until they are up to date on shots, free of heartworms and intestinal parasites and altered, if six months of age or older. If a puppy is adopted, the adoption contract stipulates that the puppy must be altered by the time s/he turns 6 months old.
