CrisisDogsNC is a foster-based, 501 (c) (3) non-profit founded in 2017 by journalist and author Judith Reitman Texier whose investigative articles garnered international awards and prompted changes in animal welfare laws. She created the Organization in response to North Carolina’s euthanasia rate which is among the highest in the country and to many of its shelters’ methods of euthanasia that are so inhumane they are outlawed in most other states.​We rescue dogs from kill shelters, substandard backyard breeders, hoarders, and from chains. We provide full medical care, foster homes, and transport by land and air through our partnership with PilotsNPaws to fully screened and qualified adopters all along the East Coast.​What distinguishes us from other rescues is our focus on the relationship between the rescued dog and the new family. By understanding your lifestyle and expectations, as well as the personalities of our rescue dogs, we can make a compatible match for a lifelong bond. We are in it for the life of the dog. At any point after adoption, if the adopter's situation changes for whatever reason, we will always accept the dog back into the rescue.

Butters is a 1.5 year old, 25 lb. Chihuahua/Pomeranian mix. Meet Butters, the pint-sized dynamo with a larger-than-life personality! This spirited Pomeranian-Chihuahua mix is a lovable "hot mess" in the best way possible. With his boundless energy and zest for life, Butters is ready to bring joy, laughter, and a little bit of chaos to a family that can match his enthusiasm. Butters is doing great with his potty training and is already crate trained, but he still needs some work on his leash skills. A fenced yard would be his ultimate dream—he thrives on letting loose and getting his zoomies out. He’s a quick mover and a skilled jumper, so a home with older kids would be the best fit for his energetic, playful nature. This social butterfly adores people and every dog he meets, but he’s definitely the "class clown" who sometimes tries a bit too hard to make friends. With firm and consistent training, Butters will blossom into the well-mannered boy he’s meant to be. He does have some anxiety when separated from his humans, but with patience, love, and time, he’s already making strides in feeling more secure! Butters loves toys, treats, and affection, and once he burns off his energy, he’d be thrilled to snuggle up for some quality bonding time. Additionally, your prior or current dog must be on year-round heartworm prevention. We provide transportation by both land and air whenever feasible. All assessments regarding breed and age are conducted by licensed veterinarians. We look forward to assisting you in finding your perfect canine companion!

We screen fosters and adopters. If approved for a Dog you will be required to sign a contract.
