Freedom German Shepherd Rescue

We are a group of volunteers that are dedicated to saving the lives of German Shepherds and German Shepherd mixes. We all work in a variety of disciplines to include medical, financial, animal welfare and corporate. What bonds us is our love for all dogs, specifically German Shepherds. We've all volunteered for other 501c nonprofit rescues and feel the dogs are best served by all of us working together. We all strongly feel that there are too many unwanted, abused and neglected animals that we want to work together, with shelters and the community, to help reduce the epidemic through saving the dogs and educating the public.

Meet West

Hello world, I’m West and I am a 4 month old German Shepherd and I weigh about 15 pounds. My brother and I were found abandoned in someone’s yard and had to go to the shelter, but the Freedom family found us a foster home. YAY!  I am a high energy pup who is full of zoomies and mischief. I am dog, cat, and kid friendly, but I do not like chickens. I’m still a little mouthy because I’m a puppy, but I’m slowly learning my manners. I’m super smart, so with a little training I think I could learn a lot!  I’m almost totally housebroken! I don’t love the crate very much, though I will hang out in it for a while if my foster humans entice me with exciting toys. I really love sleeping with a person or dog. When I finally get tired of playing, I just love to snuggle!  Sometimes I get a little nervous with new people, animals, or situations. I’m learning to play politely with the other dogs in my foster family, and they correct me if I get to be too much for them. I’m starting to learn my place in the pack, and I think I would do well coming into a family that has an older dog who will play with me. I would do best with a high energy family who would keep up with my energy level! Since I am a high energy boy with plenty of growing to do, I will need a 6 foot fence. I can’t wait to meet you and lick your face!  If you are interested in learning more about me or would like to meet me, please reach out to your adoption coordinator. If you don’t have an adoption coordinator, please complete an application at www.freedomgermanshepherdrescue.org . I will be the greatest addition to your family! I am being fostered outside of Jacksonville, NC.

Adoption Process
All applicants must pass a vet check, phone interview and home visit in order to adopt. Once an applicant passes, they must sign an adoption contract where they agree to alter the dog by 6 months of age - if they are adopting a puppy, guarantee that the dog will receive proper vet care, food, water and exercise, and will return the dog to the rescue if they can no longer keep the dog for any reason. All dogs are microchipped prior to adoption, with Freedom GSR always remaining on the chip. The adoption fee is $250, adopters receive a 2 week trial period with the dog and if the adopter is found to be in violation of the contract, Freedom GSR will reclaim the dog. All dogs will not be adopted out until they are up to date on shots, free of heartworms and intestinal parasites and altered, if six months of age or older. If a puppy is adopted, the adoption contract stipulates that the puppy must be altered by the time s/he turns 6 months old.
