CrisisDogsNC

CrisisDogsNC is a foster-based, 501 (c) (3) non-profit founded in 2017 by journalist and author Judith Reitman Texier whose investigative articles garnered international awards and prompted changes in animal welfare laws. She created the Organization in response to North Carolina’s euthanasia rate which is among the highest in the country and to many of its shelters’ methods of euthanasia that are so inhumane they are outlawed in most other states. We rescue dogs from kill shelters, substandard backyard breeders, hoarders, and from chains. We provide full medical care, foster homes, and transport by land and air through our partnership with PilotsNPaws to fully screened and qualified adopters all along the East Coast. What distinguishes us from other rescues is our focus on the relationship between the rescued dog and the new family. By understanding your lifestyle and expectations, as well as the personalities of our rescue dogs, we can make a compatible match for a lifelong bond. We are in it for the life of the dog. At any point after adoption, if the adopter's situation changes for whatever reason, we will always accept the dog back into the rescue.

Meet Gizmo

Gizmo is an 8-year-old, 10 lb. Shih Tzu. Gizmo is absolutely adorable! He will draw you in with his beautiful markings and adorable "puppy eyes". Gizmo is a great little guy who loves lounging around with his foster dog siblings and playing with them in the yard. He hopes his new family has a doggie friend too! He is a calm guy and follows the energy of the house and other dogs, so if everyone is ready to go outside, so is Gizmo! When everyone is ready to relax, Gizmo is too! Because he came to us very skinny and hungry, he is always excited for his next meal or treats. Gizmo is a gentleman and can be left alone at home without a crate, he has not had an accident in the house and is fully potty-trained. He does get a little sad when his foster mom leaves the house, but he is all smiles and quietly and patiently waiting for her when she gets home! Who wouldn't want to come home to that sweet face? Gizmo also loves walks and he absolutely loves being around his humans! He would happily cuddle on the couch with you and be your best friend. If Gizmo sounds like your type of guy, apply to meet him today! Gizmo is undergoing a few tests for an unknown condition and is currently on Denamarin. This may be temporary or life-long and the rescue will post an update when known. Comprehensive details are provided in the dog's description. To ensure a smooth process, please submit a completed application through our website at: http://crisisdogsnc.org/dog-adoption/. Please note that questions via email or social media channels may not receive a response without a completed application. As part of our commitment to responsible adoption practices, we require excellent veterinarian references and conduct virtual home visits. Additionally, your prior or current dog must be on year-round heartworm prevention. We provide transportation by both land and air whenever feasible. All assessments regarding breed and age are conducted by licensed veterinarians. We look forward to assisting you in finding your perfect canine companion!

Adoption Process
We screen fosters and adopters. If approved for a Dog you will be required to sign a contract.
