CrisisDogsNC

CrisisDogsNC is a foster-based, 501 (c) (3) non-profit founded in 2017 by journalist and author Judith Reitman Texier whose investigative articles garnered international awards and prompted changes in animal welfare laws. She created the Organization in response to North Carolina’s euthanasia rate which is among the highest in the country and to many of its shelters’ methods of euthanasia that are so inhumane they are outlawed in most other states. We rescue dogs from kill shelters, substandard backyard breeders, hoarders, and from chains. We provide full medical care, foster homes, and transport by land and air through our partnership with PilotsNPaws to fully screened and qualified adopters all along the East Coast. What distinguishes us from other rescues is our focus on the relationship between the rescued dog and the new family. By understanding your lifestyle and expectations, as well as the personalities of our rescue dogs, we can make a compatible match for a lifelong bond. We are in it for the life of the dog. At any point after adoption, if the adopter's situation changes for whatever reason, we will always accept the dog back into the rescue.

Meet Johnny Cash

Johnny Cash is a six-year-old, ninety-one-pound, German Shepherd and Husky mix. Johnny Cash is good with dogs and good with mature older kids. Johnny Cash was surrendered because his owner was moving away from a domestic situation to a place where she could not have a dog. Johnny Cash is very loving to his people, for the first eight months of his life Johhny Cash was in a home where he was left in a crate and physically abused. It was at this time his most recent owner rescued Johnny Cash. Because of this Johnny Cash is very sensitive to confinement and cannot be crated.   He is protective of his family and requires a slow introduction to strangers. Johnny Cash is housetrained, and neutered. It would be best if Johnny Cash is an only dog since he is scared of dominant dogs. Johnny Cash needs leash training and would need a fenced yard to romp in. We offer a free training class by zoom and can recommend a good trainer in the Raleigh area. We reply to completed applications only, not to calls, not to emails, not to instant or private Facebook messages. Excellent vet references and a virtual home visit required. Your prior or current dog must be on year-round heartworm prevention. We prefer a fenced yard, but this is not required for all our dogs. We transport by land or air whenever possible.

Adoption Process
We screen fosters and adopters. If approved for a Dog you will be required to sign a contract.
