Freedom German Shepherd Rescue

We are a group of volunteers that are dedicated to saving the lives of German Shepherds and German Shepherd mixes. We all work in a variety of disciplines to include medical, financial, animal welfare and corporate. What bonds us is our love for all dogs, specifically German Shepherds. We've all volunteered for other 501c nonprofit rescues and feel the dogs are best served by all of us working together. We all strongly feel that there are too many unwanted, abused and neglected animals that we want to work together, with shelters and the community, to help reduce the epidemic through saving the dogs and educating the public.

Meet Toro - Adoption Pending

Meet Toro – The Mighty Little Bull with a Heart of Gold!   Like his name suggests, Toro is strong, spirited, and full of life! At just 6 months old and already 55 pounds, this handsome German Shepherd puppy has the heart of a champion and the soul of a loyal companion. Toro is a social butterfly with other dogs, always ready for a romp and some good-natured play. But don’t be fooled—this little bull is just as content entertaining himself with toys or soaking up quality time with his favorite humans. Whether it’s a game of fetch, a fun training session, or simply lying by your side, Toro knows how to enjoy the moment. His sharp mind makes training a breeze—he caught on to potty training quickly and just needs a little guidance to fully master it. He’s also crate trained and well on his way to learning basic obedience. That said, Toro has a strong will and can be a bit hard-headed at times, so he’ll thrive with a confident handler who can provide firm, fair guidance. He would also benefit from a well-balanced, confident canine companion to help him navigate his developmental stages. With proper training, Toro could do well even without a fenced yard, but he will need clear boundaries to understand where home ends and adventure begins. Given his playful, rough-and-tumble nature, a home without cats would be best—after all, a little bull like Toro doesn’t always realize his own strength! If you’re looking for a fun-loving, intelligent, and affectionate companion who’s ready to charge into life’s adventures with you, Toro is your guy!   If you are interested in making Toro a part of your family, please contact your adoption coordinator. If you do not have an adoption coordinator, please complete an adoption application at www.freedomgermanshepherdrescue.org . Toro is being fostered in Charlotte, NC.

Adoption Process
All applicants must pass a vet check, phone interview and home visit in order to adopt. Once an applicant passes, they must sign an adoption contract where they agree to alter the dog by 6 months of age - if they are adopting a puppy, guarantee that the dog will receive proper vet care, food, water and exercise, and will return the dog to the rescue if they can no longer keep the dog for any reason. All dogs are microchipped prior to adoption, with Freedom GSR always remaining on the chip. The adoption fee is $250, adopters receive a 2 week trial period with the dog and if the adopter is found to be in violation of the contract, Freedom GSR will reclaim the dog. All dogs will not be adopted out until they are up to date on shots, free of heartworms and intestinal parasites and altered, if six months of age or older. If a puppy is adopted, the adoption contract stipulates that the puppy must be altered by the time s/he turns 6 months old.
