The Animal Protection Society of Durham (APS) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that has been helping animals in our community since 1970, and has managed the Durham County Animal Shelter since 1990. APS relies on donations from caring individuals and corporations to feed, shelter and provide medical attention for the nearly 5,000 stray, surrendered, abandoned, abused and neglected animals we care for each year.Federal Identification Number: 56-1047100

I may look like a tough guy, but at my heart I’m a real softy! I’m energetic and enthusiastic, friendly, and playful! I really like treats, play, being with my people, learning new skills and exploring! I’ll need some basic things to help me thrive: some basic training, plenty of brain games and exercise, and of course plenty of enrichment! Let’s learn together! Kids: 10+, mindful of size, jumpy, may steal kids toys, high energy Dogs: Nervous play, may enjoy wrestling and chase games, slow and careful intros

Adoption Process
Cats: $95 Dogs: $125-$175 Requirements: Government issues ID 18 and older Own home OR live in a place where pets are allowed No past animal about charges Cannot be under the influence when adopting Cannot be adopting the animal as a gift
