He’d like all his potential adopters to know that in addition to help with supervising the wash machine and he also helps folding laundry. He likes to jump on and through the sheets and blankets as his foster mom folds laundry and he finds his contribution to the household very helpful and necessary. He makes his foster mom laugh. Porky has thought of his foster mom as a pretty smart lady. However he’d like everyone to know that he’s recently outsmarted her. (See photo). This smart boy figured out how to let himself out of his kennel! He was a very good boy in his time out of the kennel; and made no attempts to escape the dog room that has a gate across the door. He didn’t chew anything up either. He did some agility work on himself but that’s about all for that adventure. Porky has been walking a little better on the leash with the help of a gentle leader. As Porky gets more and more comfortable in our home, we are learning that he is such a snuggler! His snuggle rating in the house is 8.5/10; he’s slowly climbing the ranks and says he’ll be 10/10 very soon. He sleeps through the night and will bark at reasonably unfamiliar noises, providing the home with the comfort of a protector in the house. Nighttime barking has not been a negative trait by any means as he determines level of threat quite well. Porky has not yet been in close contact with children and at this time we do not know if Porky would be a little bit too rambunctious when playing around kids or if he’d be more considerate to not accidentally knock them over. We hope to test this out soon! 7/23/2022 Foster Feedback: Mr. Porky Pine started his journey on a reservation. He weaseled his big ol' head, with his body to follow, into a spot at the rescue’s building where we first laid eyes on each other during a noon shift walking the dogs. Porky’s unique mutt face and XXL head had me smitten. We have a resident dog in our home who takes time to warm up to new dogs. Porky let Matilda be the boss and made no attempts to confront Matilda until she was more inviting. They get along great now. Porky likes to supervise the process of doing laundry. He stares deep into the front load washing machine, watching the water and clothes go round and round and round. Then he stands guard while the cycle finishes to ensure no pieces of clothing jump out. When Porky arrived, he was unsure of water. He didn’t have any interest in the kiddie pool or sprinkler. After only a week, he learned to jump into the kiddie pool, trying to catch all the little waves with his snout. He recently learned to play in the sprinkler and chase the stream of water. His talents include switching the settings on the sprinkler handle. On Porky’s second night with us, he was briefly unaccounted for and was found hiding under the bed. He occasionally continues to do this and it’s adorable but could be a safety concern. I’d recommend in his new home that underneath the bed area is secured well so a bed would never squish him if it collapsed. Porky is very food motivated. He walks nicely on a leash using a harness until he wants to go meet another dog. Due to his strength and size, he should only be walked by someone capable of hanging on if he wants to run after a bunny. He requires slow and supervised introductions to new dogs and that sets him up for success! He is kenneled when I am gone, barks briefly when I leave and return but quiets down with some instruction via video camera. I do keep metal snaps on the doors of his crate as he is strong enough to bend the crate door a bit to sneak out. I don’t believe he has had any accidents inside since he’s been here! He’s such a lovable and goofy guy. He has been misinformed of his size and tries to be a lap dog. Porky is large and sometimes inconsiderate of his surroundings when playing and could potentially knock a small child over, however, we have not tested out this scenario. He has briefly met children and done well. He has an extreme amount of never-ending energy and expends most of it by playing with the resident dogs. He would like a home with another dog however I feel he would do just fine without one if he had ample stimulation and exercise. Lastly, I would keep this dog in a heartbeat if I could.
