Meet Brown Dog: Abandoned in The Brown Center parking lot, Brown Dog’s past is a mystery, but one thing’s for sure—he’s a Very Good Boy with a huge heart. This handsome Shepherd mix is strong and determined on the leash, but with just a few minutes of practice, he’s already showing how smart he is, learning to walk with a loose leash. We’re working with him daily on his leash manners, and he’s picking up cues quickly! Update: He stills pulls on the leash! Since he has to be on a leash ALL the time, we stopped Brown Dog was diagnosed with heartworms and Lyme disease. He’s already started prescription treatments, and he’ll return to the vet on December 16, 2024, to begin his heartworm treatment journey. While his recovery will take time, we’re committed to seeing him through every step of it. Despite all he’s been through, Brown Dog remains happy, affectionate, and always eager for treats and human attention. He’s a wonderful travel buddy and is incredibly focused on his person, always eager to please. Dec 16, 2024 Brown Dog aka Brown Dug, went to the vet for a 2-night stay. He received to injections and returned to an isolated foster location to keep him calm. He's staying calm, has a good appetite, has good bowel movements and his kidneys are working well. He's getting out 4 to 6 times a day for 10-minute leash walks & also getting a few treats. He has no interest in bananas! We went for a car ride today & the teller at the bank drive-through gave him a treat. This routine will continue until January 20, 2025, when he returns to the vet for another heartworm treatment. January 17, 2025 Update: Brown Dog's Heartworm Journey Brown Dog is making great progress! He just completed his first round of heartworm treatment, finishing his last dose of medication yesterday. He's feeling fantastic and has more energy than ever—his leash-pulling game is stronger as he dreams of running and playing again. For his safety, we're keeping him calm and reeling him back in to ensure a smooth recovery. Brown Dog returns to the shelter today and will visit the vet on Monday, January 20, 2025, for his second round of treatment. Please send him some extra love as he continues on this journey! Brown Dog Update – January 23, 2025 Our brave boy, Brown Dog, returned to the shelter yesterday after completing his second round of heartworm treatment—and he’s doing great! He’s eager to stretch those legs and explore a bit. Brown Dog’s next vet appointment is scheduled for February 17, 2025, and he’s asking everyone to send lots of prayers and positive vibes his way for a clean bill of health.
