Meet Deacon
Meet Deacon! He is a 6 month old Bernese Mountain Dog who currently weighs 60 pounds. PLEASE READ FULL BIO BEFORE APPLYING. Deacon came to us from a puppy mill when he was 4 months old. Even at such a young age, he had already experienced enough trauma that left him totally shut down. It took several weeks to get Deacon back to being somewhat of a typical puppy. Due to his rough start in life, he will likely always have some 'quirks' but he has come so far! Deacon's forever home requirements:-Another large, confident, super friendly dog in the home. Deacon LOVES other dogs and takes his cues from them before trying new things. Another dog is essential for helping him overcome his fears and gain confidence in new situations. He relies heavily on a companion to show him the ropes and help him trust people.-A fully fenced in yard. We will require it to be a physical fence, not an electric fence. Deacon still needs work on leash training and being comfortable on walks. Due to this he will need to get his exercise and potty breaks in a securely fenced yard.-A very patient owner. This cannot be stressed enough! Deacon has done very well in his foster home learning how to 'dog'. But he still experiences days where he is extremely skittish. On those days he needs an owner who is understanding and not frustrated. He loves playing with other dogs, getting attention and crawling up next to you on the couch for some love. All of those things happen on his terms though. He cannot be forced into them or he shuts down. He is also extremely shut down in public (vet appointments, grooming appointments, etc.) so those trips will take patience as well. Any adopter will also need to be aware of the higher costs associated with owning a large breed. He currently eats 6 cups a day of Purina Pro Plan Sensitive Skin & Stomach. Deacon is crate trained and mostly potty trained. He still has accidents on occasion, but with more training and a schedule he should learn quickly. He is up to date on vaccines, neutered and on monthly preventions. His adoption fee is $350. To apply please visit our website, www.prodogsohio.org/adoptables and complete an application!
