Underdogs Rock! Rescue

We are a small Portland, Oregon based 501c3 organization rescuing dogs from the over crowded shelters in Southern California, Alabama, and Hawaii. We foster the dogs until they are healthy and help them find their forever homes! Contact us at [email protected] work directly with Rescue Groups in Southern California to rescue dogs who are on their last days in the high-kill shelters. Because our dogs are in Foster Homes we get to know the dogs personalities and needs. As we know the dogs well and how they do in a home environment, we do a great job in matching families with the right dog, and the right family for the dog!

Meet Pepe

Pepe is beyond adorable and a young 1.5 years old. He has a sweet personality to match his short legged, long bodied, fluff ball cuteness. He’s 110% a companion pet. He likes to be with his people, even if that only means lying at their feet. That is not say he does not have spurts of energy throughout the day. He enjoys a couple daily walks, playing with toys, and a few daily zoomie sessions out in a fenced yard. He could live in a home with or without another dog. In a home with another dog his people are going to be his focus, not another dog, but he will attempt to play with another resident dog a time or two during the day.  Older small dog savvy kids would be fine as he finds the more attention the better. He does, however, get mouthy/bitey with hands when excited and needs gentle redirection when this occurs. He will sleep in his crate at night if it’s right next to your bed, but he’d really rather share your bed. Interested in making Pepe a part of your family? If so, make sure you are understand of all the following. WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT PEPE: He can be vocal. At home he alerts you to strange sounds. He barks anytime someone comes into the house and will continue to bark until he trusts the new arrival is suddenly his very best friends. He also gets vocal when he wants to play. Sometimes he’ll even attempt to have a conversation with you. All that cuteness comes with high maintenance. He mats easily and whatever he walks through ends up in his hair. He needs daily brushing and monthly full grooming sessions.  He came into rescue severely underweight. He has gained a little, but needs to gain more. His lack of interest in food has made this difficult. He is currently getting fed 3-5 times a day. This will need to continue until he gets closer to 15Lbs. He is very picky about what food he will eat (he’s not willing to eat any kibble yet).  While he’s doing great with his house training and is good on leash, he has not had any basic command training. His lack of interest in treats makes training a little more challenging Though sweet and friendly he can get overwhelmed by too much commotion and/or by unfamiliar sounds, especially when outside of the home.  He’s best suited for a calmer home that can provide controlled positive social interactions out in the world to help him build more confidence overall.     Any breed mix is just a guess. He has not been DNA tested and Underdog cannot say he is hypoallergenic. Pepe has had a recent full health check, is microchipped, and up to date on preventatives and vaccinations. He has an Underdogs Rock Rescue provided neuter appointment scheduled for September 23rd at a Portland, OR, vet. His adoption fee is $550. He is being fostered in Vancouver, WA You must be able to meet an available dog at the foster’s location. Dogs are not held for potential adopters or shipped outside of the area. Home checks are part of the adoption and will be conducted virtually.
