The Humane Society of McCormick County, Inc.

The Humane Society of McCormick County is a no-kill animal rescue. We pick up homeless cats and dogs in McCormick County and help them find loving homes. We offer low-cost spay and neuter to any cat or dog in the County and we a have a progressive trap - neuter or spay -and return (TNR) program and we monitor and feed several community cat colonies every day. We are 100% funded by private donations, grants and money raised through fundraising activities. All money raised goes to helping animals because we are all volunteers. The county does not have a city or county-run shelter. We are all our county has for help with homeless cats and dogs. We care for the dogs and cats that would otherwise have no other place to go.

Meet Princess

Meet Princess, a sweet and gentle pup who’s looking for a family to help her build confidence and show her the love she deserves! Princess and her two brothers were found after being abandoned on a back road. They were very skittish, and it took a while to trap them. They had either not had much human interaction, or the interaction they had was not positive. Princess made some progress at the shelter, but we felt like she needed more one-on-one attention. She entered the Leash on Life Prison Pup Program in July of 2024, where she’s been working hard on socialization and gaining trust. Born on 4/20/23, Princess is a playful 40-pound bundle of joy who’s spayed, microchipped, and up to date on all her shots.  Princess is shy at first, but once she warms up, she blossoms into a playful, energetic companion. She loves fetch, tug of war, and playing with other dogs—she even thinks she’s as big as a Great Dane! She’s also a bit of a goofball, enjoying outdoor adventures like playing with bugs. But when it’s time to relax, Princess is a total couch potato and may snuggle up on your lap for some extra love if she's in the mood. This smart girl already knows several commands, including “sit,” “down,” “stay,” “place,” and “come,” and she walks beautifully on a loose leash. She’s also housetrained and will wait for her "eat-eat" command before mealtime—especially impressive because Princess is highly food-motivated, making training easier! While she’s cautious of new people and may bark when she first meets someone, Princess isn’t aggressive and just needs time to feel comfortable. She’s very observant and likes to take things at her own pace, so patience and understanding will help her come out of her shell. She’s a little wary of big birds (who can blame her?) and tends to shy away from strangers on walks, but with the right guidance, she’ll continue to grow in confidence. Princess is a loving, calm, and loyal companion who’s ready to find her forever home. If you’re looking for a sweet pup to be your lap dog, playmate, and best friend, Princess might just be the perfect match for you! Could you be the one to give Princess the happy ending she’s been waiting for? *************************************************************************** This pet comes with an implanted 24 PetWatch microchip and free registration into the 24PetWatch pet recovery service. *************************************************************************** This dog is available for adoption at the Humane Society of McCormick County is SC for an adoption fee. All of our dogs are indoor dogs with outdoor privileges. To adopt, contact 864-391-2349 or [email protected]. We are an all-volunteer 501c3 organization. To learn more, visit www.hsmcsc.org.

Adoption Process
Our adoption process starts with an interview. We want to know what type of cat or dog they are looking for, their lifestyle, and their expectations. Then we set up a meet and greet either at the shelter, a pet store, or at their home. Then they fill out an adoption contract. We offer and encourage potential adopters to take the dog or cat home on foster-to-adopt for a few weeks before finalizing the adoption. Our adoption fee is $65 for cats and $125 for dogs which included spay or neuter and vaccinations and for dogs, it includes a microchip. Cats can be microchipped upon request.
