The Humane Society of McCormick County, Inc.

The Humane Society of McCormick County is a no-kill animal rescue. We pick up homeless cats and dogs in McCormick County and help them find loving homes. We offer low-cost spay and neuter to any cat or dog in the County and we a have a progressive trap - neuter or spay -and return (TNR) program and we monitor and feed several community cat colonies every day. We are 100% funded by private donations, grants and money raised through fundraising activities. All money raised goes to helping animals because we are all volunteers. The county does not have a city or county-run shelter. We are all our county has for help with homeless cats and dogs. We care for the dogs and cats that would otherwise have no other place to go.

Courtesy Post: Here is what Dolly's foster has to say about her: I’ve had Dolly since February 2nd, 2025. In this time Dolly has been caught up on all vaccines, tested for heartworms (she was negative), received flea and tick treatment, and has been spayed. I believe that Dolly is Mountain Cur and American Staffordshire Terrier mixed, just based off her brindle colors, size (39 lbs), and looks. Dolly is a sweet girl who wants nothing more than love and attention from anyone willing to give it to her. She always has a wiggling lose body showing how happy, comfortable, and playful she is. She meets no strangers and get along very well with other dogs, cats, bunnies, and children. Dolly is house broken, kennel trained, leash trained, and does well on a lead. Dolly is always open for kisses and hugs and loves to snuggle up in a blanket with her human. I do feed her two times a day. Once in the morning and once in the evening. Although Dolly is not food aggressive, she does prefer to eat her food away from other animals and she takes her time doing so. Dolly typically has free-range outside and inside when I am home, but when I’m working or sleeping, she is typically in her kennel where she does have a nice comfy bed and blankets. She always put herself in her kennel and since it seems to be what she is familiar with that’s what I have always done to keep her comfortable. Dolly is very hyper and runs around playing with the other dogs nonstop. When she isn’t running around with them, she has the zoomies! Dolly has been such a great girl and is going to be the best addition to any family!  Please contact [email protected] for more information. This pup is posted as a courtesy and is not affiliated with the Humane Society of McCormick County (HSMC). The HSMC is not liable for this pup and an adoption of this pup would be independent of the HSMC.  This courtesy post is in collaboration with the McCormick County Sheriff's Office to help cats and dogs in our community find good homes.

Adoption Process
Our adoption process starts with an interview. We want to know what type of cat or dog they are looking for, their lifestyle, and their expectations. Then we set up a meet and greet either at the shelter, a pet store, or at their home. Then they fill out an adoption contract. We offer and encourage potential adopters to take the dog or cat home on foster-to-adopt for a few weeks before finalizing the adoption. Our adoption fee is $65 for cats and $125 for dogs which included spay or neuter and vaccinations and for dogs, it includes a microchip. Cats can be microchipped upon request.
