Cumberland County Animal Shelter

Cumberland County Animal Shelter houses approximately 2000 animals every year. They have a small staff of a shelter Director and two full-time employees with the rest of the staff made up of part-timers who come and go. As a private, retired citizen, The shelter director has authorized me to go into the shelter five days a week to photograph animals to post at online adoption sites. I add, edit and then delete animals when they have been adopted or are no longer available. Because they do not have a large enough staff to handle this type of work, I am able to do it for the shelter, mostly from my home, as a free service.

Meet BOWSER (Neutered!)

BOWSER is an absolutely gorgeous American bully mix male dog. He is 60 pounds and was estimated at about 3 to 4 years of age. He arrived at the beginning of the second week of July, 2022. So, he has been at the shelter for quite a while. Staff thinks that he is a great dog. Thanks to a partnership between a department at UT and the Cumberland County Animal Shelter, he was neutered on Wednesday, February 21. That means he can go home the same day that he is adopted! He is currently housed in a small kennel as he does not get along with any other animals according to staff’s notes. So, if you have any other animals or plan to get any other animals, this is not the dog for you. Staff will be glad to guide you toward a more appropriate dog. However, if you have no other animals and are not planning to get any more, feel free to CALL the shelter to schedule an adoption appointment. Staff can explain the adoption procedures and fees when you call. The shelter does require EXACT change in the form of cash or a check. The shelter is UNABLE to accept credit or debit. So, please go prepared! That includes taking a dog collar and leash with you to the adoption appointment in case you decide to adopt BOWSER. Even better, take a dog crate with you. No animal should be allowed to run freely in any vehicle. Especially an animal that you have just adopted! Safety first

Adoption Process
Adoption contract, Adoption fee of $50 per cat and $80 per dog set by county commission and subject to change, drivers license and cash or check only. The adoption fees currently cover most, but not all, of the spay/neuter cost incurred by the county.
