Shelter Animals Rescue Group

Our organization is an all-volunteer 501(c)3 non-profit, formed in 1996 to help save adoptable dogs and cats from euthanization at the Oak Ridge Animal Shelter. We specialize in mixed breeds. Our shelter is often filled with very adoptable animals that must die because of space limitations, and we are devoted to giving a second chance to as many as we can. We house our animals in foster homes or boarding kennels for as long as it takes to find them permanent homes. We participate in numerous community events to promote our animals and the concept of adoption/rescue.

Meet Barney

Barney is a 14-years-young shih tzu mix. We don’t really know much about his background, other than that, when he was brought into the shelter, he had to be shaved and had a raging ear infection so bad that his foster family thought he was deaf. Barney has had a dental, cleared up the ear infection and adjusted to life in his foster home. He has learned lots of new things, proving that you absolutely can teach an old dog new tricks, and that he is not deaf. He uses the doggie door like a champ and is currently living with 5 other dogs. He is a very pleasant fellow who likes to be in the same room with his people. He would make a great companion for someone older who is home most of the time. He walks great on a leash but really doesn’t need to go too far. He is housetrained, but he isn’t a huge fan of the rain. His foster family can’t say enough good things about him and says he is a very easy keeper who deserves a second ‘leash’ at a great life. If you are interested in Barney, please put in an application! Adoption information at https://shelteranimalsrescue.org/adopt
