Happy Dog Rescue

We partner with rescue groups and shelters across the South to rehome southern dogs with loving families. Loyal and loving dogs turn up every day in Southern shelters, as owners turn them in or they’re found roaming the streets after being dumped. To the best of our abilities, we evaluate all our goldens’ temperaments and suitability for living with other dogs, cats, and children. Their health is checked, and we make sure they are up-to-date on all shots and spayed or neutered. Then we place them in loving foster homes until they find their very own family. Our goal is to meet the needs of each dog as an individual and to assure proper placement in a loving forever home.

Meet Mae

To adopt please fill out an adoption Application  Mae is a small 1yo female shepherd/hound mix who was rescued from traffic in Memphis. Friendly, well-socialized, gentle. Great with other dogs and living comfortably with 3 other dogs in her foster home. Fine with the family’s cat. Great with kids and recommended for children 6 years and older. Playful with high activity level outside and settles down quickly in the house. Good house manners. Housebroken but not crated because she doesn’t need to be, she never bothers anything. Obeys basic commands.  Loves to be with her people. Healthy and fully vetted, current on shots, spayed, weighs about 40 pounds. AWESOME young shepherd mix will make a wonderful companion (and jogging partner!) for an active family with kids. Here’s a note from her foster dad.   Mae is very friendly and never meets a stranger. She likes running, chase games with other dogs, fetching, watching animals on TV, snuggling with humans and dogs, dog wrestling, tug of war, eager to please humans. She likes to steal and horde toys but does not guard them. I think she is actually trying to get the other dogs to take them so she can play. She has no alpha-dog behavior, and we have dogs on both sides of our fence and she is disinterested when they bark or make a fuss.  She’s not professionally trained, but she knows sit, stay, here, out, no, leave it, bedtime (where she and one other dog go into a different room for the night and lie down), she waits to be released before eating. She has good recall in the yard.  She’s a little jumpy, we are working on it but she gets excited when we come back home. Occasionally there will be a missing shoe but she doesn’t rip it up. She has pulled food off the counter a few times. She was mouthy in the beginning but has learned to resist that urge; if you put your hand in her face she investigates but mostly just waits to be pet. Mae would definitely enjoy a multi-dog home, considering her youth, but any sort of active home would be great for her. She loves laying on the couch for hours though.
