Cumberland County Animal Shelter

Cumberland County Animal Shelter houses approximately 2000 animals every year. They have a small staff of a shelter Director and two full-time employees with the rest of the staff made up of part-timers who come and go. As a private, retired citizen, The shelter director has authorized me to go into the shelter five days a week to photograph animals to post at online adoption sites. I add, edit and then delete animals when they have been adopted or are no longer available. Because they do not have a large enough staff to handle this type of work, I am able to do it for the shelter, mostly from my home, as a free service.

Meet SODA (Spayed!)

SODA arrived at the shelter, the first half of October 2024, along with her sister named COLA. The two girls are listed as about eight months of age. SODA weighed 36 pounds at Intake and she is a very sweet girl. In fact, both of them are very sweet! SODA was spayed on Monday, October 22, 2024, thanks to a partnership between UT and Cumberland County Animal Shelter. As a result, she can go home the same day that she is adopted! Serious adopters are encouraged to CALL the shelter to schedule an adoption appointment. Staff can explain the adoption procedures and fees when you call. The shelter does require EXACT change in the form of cash or a check. The shelter is UNABLE to accept credit or debit. So, please go prepared! That includes taking a dog collar and leash with you to the adoption appointment. Even better, take a dog crate with you in your vehicle. No animal should be allowed to run freely in any vehicle. Especially an animal that you have adopted! Safety!

Adoption Process
Adoption contract, Adoption fee of $50 per cat and $80 per dog set by county commission and subject to change, drivers license and cash or check only. The adoption fees currently cover most, but not all, of the spay/neuter cost incurred by the county.
