It is very important that he goes to a home with another well socialized small dog that he can learn from what it’s about to be a pet and not to be afraid of new things. If you are truly looking to “rescue” a pet then Cody would be a good one for you. He will need patience and love and an understanding that this is not going to happen overnight. It would be really be great if someone with breeder dog experience would come forward and want to adopt him. Yes it’ll take work but the rewards are great when you see the first time he wags his tail at you or comes running when you come home or better yet when he climbs in your lap. He is the true rescue story. So if you have what it takes then please apply but if you just are not sure you want to take on a project like Cody then please pass on him. BUT if you do you won’t regret your decision and you have just made his life worth while. Must haves be: A fenced in yard Another young small well socialized dog for him to play with and learn from Someone home more than not Someone willing to put in the work to make him the pet he wants to be No apartments, high rises, or condos ============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ============== AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten. If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form. They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal. There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered. We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures. To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3. Click this link to apply: https://www.allamericandachshundrescue.org/apply, it will take you to the application form. Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers who will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or Midwest. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. Please look for dogs on your coast.
Adoption Process
Our adoption process is documented on our website at: http://www.allamericandachshundrescue.org/info/adoption
We do check all references including vet and a home visit is conducted for each animal adoption unless the adopter has previously adopted and there have been no changes or large lapse of time.
