He belonged to a man who was starving him to death; his parents and three siblings had already died from starvation. He was just 7 pounds when the family stepped in and took him from the hell he had been living in. They found he had more issues than they could handle, so they reached out to a local rescue and then to us because he is a Dachshund. Without hesitation, we said we would take him. Our hearts broke for this poor little guy that was locked in a house and abused. Due to him having some socialization issues and being overwhelmed, we decided to send him to training to get him some help. Because he is so young, we felt he could be saved. We know a sweet boy is in there; he just needs help finding him. Our must-haves for precious Otto include: A fenced yard Someone who is home more often than not Another young, small dog for him to play with No children under the age of 14 years, as he would be too nervous with any running or playing or loud voices No apartments, high-rises, or condos If you would like to know more about Otto, we can put you in touch with the trainer and she can let you know how our sweet boy is doing. He deserves nothing but the best from here on out.   ============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ============== AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten. If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.  There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered.  We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures. To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3. Click this link to apply: https://www.allamericandachshundrescue.org/apply, it will take you to the application form. Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend.  We have volunteers who will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or Midwest.  We just can't get them from one coast to the other.  Please look for dogs on your coast.

Adoption Process
Our adoption process is documented on our website at: http://www.allamericandachshundrescue.org/info/adoption We do check all references including vet and a home visit is conducted for each animal adoption unless the adopter has previously adopted and there have been no changes or large lapse of time.
