He is a retired breeder pup from NC, but unlike most breeder dogs, he is not timid and scared of people. Scruffy is a happy, friendly, affectionate little guy! After spending the last 6 years in a kennel setting with multiple other doxies, he is adjusting quickly to living in a private home setting with 4 other doxies. He can be a tad jealous of the other pups in the home, since he wants so badly to be the center of attention for his foster mom. He would not do well if any current dogs in your home are also attention seekers. Scruffy has been completely vetted including a dental where he did lose a few teeth but now has a gleaming white smile that he happily shows off … check out the pic of him in the dog bed smiling! Scruffy will turn 7 in April but acts more like a puppy since he never had a chance to play like one as a breeder stud. He runs and bounces around the fenced in yard! Scruffy can be an only dog, IF you work from home or are newly retired. He is doing well with house-breaking when there is someone available to go out in the fenced yard with him to potty. He is doing great walking on a leash and would be very happy to have a walk or two with you daily. MUST HAVES for Scruffy: A FL adopter A fenced yard Someone home a LOT since he LOVES his person Another well-socialized dog to learn from, BUT can be an ONLY dog IF you work from home or are newly retired. No apartments, high-rises, or condos with shared walls since he can be a “talker”! Wires go quickly, so if you’re interested in Scruffy fill out an application today! ============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ============== AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten. If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form. They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal. There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered. We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures. To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3. Click this link to apply: https://www.allamericandachshundrescue.org/apply, it will take you to the application form. Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers who will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or Midwest. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. Please look for dogs on your coast.
Adoption Process
Our adoption process is documented on our website at: http://www.allamericandachshundrescue.org/info/adoption
We do check all references including vet and a home visit is conducted for each animal adoption unless the adopter has previously adopted and there have been no changes or large lapse of time.
