Meet Larke - ABR Return

2/10/2025Hi! My name is Larke (now called Zoey)!  I am a beautiful 3 year old flashy brindle girl that is an adopted return owner surrender due to my current home not fitting my specific needs. My current owner believes I would do best in a female (human) only home with a companion dog or cat. I am described as shy, active, quiet, nervous, and obedient! I am extremely fearful of men. I do well in public settings, but at home or less populated areas I am very fearful of them and anxious. I am said to be dog and cat friendly and need to have one as a companion in my forever home as I am able to open up and react positively when we become friends. While I am fearful of children, as with all people, I have been around my owner's grandchildren (1-4 years old) and I allow them to pet and play with me with no reactions. I am house trained, crate trained, leash trained, and at night I sleep in the human's bed, dog bed, or crate with the door open. My owner lets me choose where I sleep. When the humans must be away and I am left alone, I do very well. I am non destructive and will find the humans shoes to snuggle with while I wait for them to return. When outside I have good behavior and do not dig or attempt to jump fences/gates. I enjoy going for runs with my owner but am very sensitive of noises while on walks/runs. I don't play much with toys unless there is another animal to play too. If you are looking for a sweet girl, will be patient with me as I work to overcome my fears, and have a companion in the home for me, contact the rescue today and give them my name because I am waiting to meet you!

Adoption Process
The Process to adopt a dog through Austin Boxer Rescue is as follows: Fill out an Online Adoption Application below. Your application will be reviewed and sent to a volunteer in your area. The volunteer will contact you to schedule a home visit within one week. Normally, a volunteer would come to your house for a home visit, but until further notice, visits are being done virtually. After your home visit is complete and you are approved you can begin meeting dogs. The Adoption Coordinator will assist you in this process. Please note: The application process begins immediately once an application is submitted and approvals tend to occur quickly. Please do not submit an application unless you are ready to take home a dog. ABR does not have the space or capability to hold dogs, therefore, dogs are adopted out on a first-come-first-serve basis. If you are not able to proceed with a home visit when contacted by an ABR volunteer then your application will be filed away. We will ask you to resubmit your application if you wish to adopt later date. Every dog adopted will have the following: Current on vaccinations and dewormed Spayed or neutered Will be micro chipped Will be treated for heartworms and/or on heartworm prevention Any additional medical problems will be treated and paid for by the rescue.
