Meet Winnie
Let me introduce myself. My name is Winnie. I am almost a year old. The vet thinks I’m a Catahoula Leopard dog/Pittie/Terrier mix. I’m a petite 35 lbs., and a very good girl if I do say so myself. I love people and get along great with other dogs. Did I mention that I love people? I mean I REALLY love people and greet them with extreme tail wags and a smiling dog face. I’m a good listener and learn very quickly. I sit and come whenever I’m asked. I have a lot of energy but I’m not destructive. I like to play with my toys and will occasionally bring you a shoe if I find one lying around. I’m just trying to be helpful. I settle down quite nicely and am happy to lay near you. I’m a great house dog and I’m at my very best if I also have a securely fenced yard with room to explore as well as daily walks and exercise. I’m learning to walk nicely on a leash. It’s hard for me not to pull on the leash when I see a squirrel or another dog. But I’m getting better at this. My foster Mom takes me to the dog park where I've made a lot of new friends. I’m house trained, of course. I haven’t had to ask my foster parents to let me outside because they take me for walks and to the dog park and let me outside in the backyard at regular intervals each day. So I’ve never had an accident at my current foster home and I’m pretty proud of that. I’ve never met a person of any size or age that I didn’t like but my foster parents think I would do best with older children since I might be a little too rambunctious for little ones. It’s probably best if I’m the baby of the family. Cats? Well, I’ve only seen them from a distance while out on my walks and they look like they would be fun to chase. I sleep well at night, lying in my own bed, preferably near my person. I will stay in a crate for an hour or two without any fuss as long as I have some soft blankets, my toys, and a chewie stick to keep me company. Here’s my story in a nutshell. I was found as a stray near Elm St. in McKinney December 26. It was a freezing cold day. Several nice people have taken turns fostering me since then. I’ve been checked out by a veterinarian, gotten my vaccinations, and I will be spayed and microchipped soon. I am looking for my perfect person and my forever home. My current foster parents are in their 80’s and I’m a bit too active for them. They also have a senior arthritic Labrador who doesn’t appreciate it when I ask her to play. So even though they love me and say that I’m the best dog, they know that I would be a better fit for a younger person, someone who would continue my training to help me become the best version of myself and who would be my very own human. If you feel your home might be the right place for this wonderful dog, the place to start is with the adoption application found at www.dfwrescueme.org/adopt. Once submitted, the foster will contact you to tell you more, and to arrange a meeting! The adoption fee for all of our dogs is $250.00, which includes their vaccinations and spay/neuter. Winnie is participating in the DFW Rescue Me Guest Dog Program, so custody and ongoing care are provided by the foster, not by DFWRM.
Adoption Process
An adoption application and home visit are required for adoption. Adoption fees are $200 for dogs and $250 for puppies.
