Meet Otter

Meet Otter! This 2-year old eager beaver bulldog mix came to us from local animal control after being found as a stray and has charmed just about everyone he’s met with his unique features and loveable personality. We don’t know much about this seal-like baby boy’s past, but from his behavior, it seems as though almost everything about living in a home setting as a family member is new to him. Our sweet little sea otter came to us noticeably underweight, with a double ear infection and a bad skin infection with open sores. His elbows have worn pressure sores from lying on hard surfaces and he initially had a hard time settling when he was out of a crate. Based on his body condition and reactions to basic situations, it seems as though someone wasn’t taking very good care of him. But this adorable aquatic creature has been a trooper and is turning into the social and playful pup he was meant to be. He tolerates ear cleanings, ear drop applications, and medicated baths like a champ. And he’s finally starting to feel better!  Otter is totally housetrained (not one accident in the house!), loves nylabones/frozen Kongs/bully sticks, and after weeks in his foster home, is starting to get the hang of snuggling. He will now slide under the blankets as if he is wrapping himself up in seaweed. His short limbs and weblike feet are mesmerizing to watch as he romps around the yard…and that sleek, round head with his sweet, sensitive whiskers…be still my heart!  Otter’s little body is jam-packed full of muscle with a hefty density reminiscent of a much larger dog – in fact, we’re not so sure he would be buoyant in open water. He has an adorably short nose, teeny-tiny chiclet teeth, and soft, silky fur. And his eyes are deep and soul searching – looking for love. Due to his size and lack of history, older kids would be best for this deserving cub. Otter’s top 3 priorities: 1.  A patient family who will give this pup extra time to decompress and go at his pace to introduce new experiences slowly. 2.  A loving family with a gentle touch who will show this little man a safety and love he has likely never known. 3.  A family looking for a low to medium energy dog – one that will gladly go for a neighborhood walk to sniff around, before heading back to the air conditioning.

Adoption Process
Adoptions Crops and Flops Rescue, Inc. prides ourselves on spending extra time with our thorough adoption process to make sure our pups and their forever families are set up for a lifetime of happiness. Being a foster-home based rescue means we understand our dogs’ personalities in a home setting and what type of environment would set them up for success. We go the extra mile with our adoption process to understand our adopters’ households to make a match made in heaven. While we understand that looks can be important, we focus our efforts on finding a match based on household, lifestyle, and temperament for the best chance of a happily-ever-after. Our dog adoption specialists are invested in our adopters and are volunteering their time to help make a great forever match. Adoption Process Our adoption process consists of the following: • Complete an Application • Reference Checks: Both veterinary and personal references are required • Phone Interview: Typically lasts 20-30 minutes with one of our knowledgeable dog adoption specialists for us to understand our adopters household • Home Visit: Our home checks are conducted both virtually and in person, include verification of home ownership, and usually take around 30 minutes to complete • Dog Meet: Adopters will be guided to meeting a dog that would be a good match – all resident family members are required to be present • Next Steps: Subsequent steps are determined at initial dog meet, especially when you have a resident dog • Adoption: We ask our adopters to wait 24-hours before scheduling an adoption to make sure all family members are committed – if all agree, we schedule the adoption as soon as volunteer schedules will allow Adoption Donations All Crops and Flops Rescue, Inc. dogs come spayed/neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on rabies and distemper vaccines and monthly preventatives, have received fecal testing and 4DX testing for tick-borne illnesses, and are sent home with an extra 2 month supply of heartworm preventatives. Adoption donations are as follows: • Whippersnapper Puppies (up to 11 months) $500 • Adult House Hippos (1 year – 7 years) $400 • Senior Pitizens (8 years+) $300
