VT Dog Rescue

VT Dog Rescue is a non-profit canine rescue focused on saving the Underdog. The sweet dogs who are passed over day after day simply because they are not perfect. Who is an underdog?- older dogs who are wise and love to snuggle- tri-pawed dogs who are happily enjoying life with 3 legs- shy dogs who need a little extra love to help them build confidence - dogs who may limp or have a physical limitation that humans see as a flaw, but they accept with dignity - dogs who are missing an eye and have adapted to navigate their world The Underdogs have, against all odds, retained their ability to be loyal and trusting companions who love us unconditionally. We believe the Underdogs, just like other shelter dogs, deserve to be rescued and placed in loving, responsible homes where they can shine.

Meet Rumi

Meet Rumi! This handsome, loving boy is a local surrender looking for a new home! Rumi is a 4 1/2-year-old Lab mix weighing about 60 lbs. Sadly, Rumi’s current owner is facing medical challenges and can no longer provide the care he deserves. She has made the difficult decision to surrender him, but we know that the right person will give him the loving chance he needs. Rumi has a lot of good things going for him - he's house trained, neutered, and up to date on his vet care. Inside the house, he’s an absolute angel – well-behaved, calm, and just full of love. ♥️ He’s also very food motivated, which makes training easier! With slow introductions and in a controlled environment, Rumi does very well with people and other dogs. He has some good canine buddies he plays with on a regular basis! Rumi can be a little more reactive when it comes to seeing people or dogs during walks on a leash or coming into the yard unexpectedly. While Rumi struggles with some reactivity issues, we truly believe he’ll thrive in the right home with a patient owner who is willing to support and understand Rumi's needs. Rumi's adoption will come with one complimentary training session. Here's what Rumi's trainer shared: "... we had worked together on his reactive behaviors towards people and dogs, especially from within owner's fenced in yard. Rumi is an intelligent and sensitive dog, who catches on to things quickly. He needs structured introductions to new people and dogs, and would benefit from consistent training to reduce his reactivity. I think that if placed in the right home with a patient person(s) who has the ability to meet his needs Rumi could do extremely well." Video available upon request.   Our adoption fee is $400 which includes age-appropriate vaccines (such as Distemper, Bordetella, Parvo, and Rabies), neutering, worming, microchipping, and health exam. Discount vouchers for training, grooming, and similar dog-related products and services are provided
