Humane Society/SPCA of Nelson County

The Almost Home Pet Adoption Center is a no-kill facility owned and operated by the Humane Society/SPCA of Nelson County. It is located at the intersection of Rt. 29 North and Stagebridge Road (Rt. 624) , just two miles north of Lovingston. Presently the facility is open daily from 1 P.M. to 4 P.M. The Adoption Center houses dogs and cats. The dogs are contained in individual rooms, one or two to a room, with wall murals painted by area artists and hemi-sync music from a sound system donated by the Monroe Institute. Visitors are encouraged to spend time in the rooms getting acquainted with the dogs and cats prior to adoption. Cats and kittens are housed in colorful cat condos with handcrafted furniture for climbing and perching.Adoption fees cover the cost of vaccinations, worming, heartworm test or feline leukemia/aids test and spaying/neutering. All adult animals are provided these veterinary services prior to adoption. Kittens and puppies are adopted out with neutering certificates covering the cost of these veterinary services at the appropriate age. Many of the animals come from unclaimed or surrendered animals at the Nelson County Animal Control Facility. These animals have been judged to be adoptable based on temperament and looks. The Center does accept animals being surrendered by Nelson residents on a space available and adoptability basis. I am a volunteer. Among other things, I take photos of animals and post them on the internet for exposure to the public. Website: http://www.nelsonspca.org/index.htm

Meet Felix

Felix the Walker hound is a good-times boy, looking for a family to call his own. Felix spent almost 2 years in the shelter before going to Camp Merricks to foster. At Camp he meets lots of dogs of all types and sizes. He loves to play and is good with both large and small dogs. When introduced to cats at the shelter he avoided them.He enjoys his soft bed in his crate and loves to put his head on his foster mom's shoulder and snuggle. He is affectionate and doesn't know a stranger.Felix is middle aged but still has a lot of energy to go hiking or camping. He has a typical ground voice, but has learned to stop when told to do so. Felix is as handsome as dogs get and can't wait to meet you. To meet Felix contact Camp Merricks at [email protected].
