Worthy Dog Rescue

Worthy Dog Rescue is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to helping dogs in distress, especially those living on chains, in pens, or in neglectful and abusive situations. Our mission is to provide a better life for these dogs, while working to address the root problems of animal overpopulation and improve animal welfare. We do this through community outreach and by supporting and educating dog owners in underserved communities, by sponsoring spay and neuter programs, and by rescuing and rehabilitating dogs in need.

Meet Winnie - ADOPTED!!!

Meet Winnie. This tiny nugget was surrendered to Worthy Dog with her siblings, and all were unplanned arrivals. Their family had two unaltered dogs in the home, and...surprise! Suddenly, six new puppies are in the world. The family reached out to Worthy Dog for help, and we took in mom, Piper, and three of her puppies. The other three puppies were taken in by one of our partner rescues. These adorable puppies are only 6 weeks old and TINY, weighing only 2 to 2.5 lbs. Thankfully, Piper, and her puppies were all living inside the home and are happy, healthy, and well-adjusted pups. The parents are both small dogs, so we don’t expect any of these pups to be more than 10-12 lbs when fully grown. These puppies were fortunate to have a very good start in life. They were born into a family that cared about their welfare and were kept together as a family unit. The trio are being fostered together in a home where they are learning from other adult dogs about how to be part of a pack. They love to play, snuggle, and give puppy kisses. They are all blank slates with everything to learn. We checked in with Winnie’s foster mom, Elizabeth, for a quick update: “Winnie is the smallest of the three but also the sassiest. She thinks she is a 100 lb dog in a 2 lb body! She will seek out a toy or stick and carry it around just a strutting! She is so proud of herself! Of the 3, I have never heard her whine. She is the one who trusts her needs will be met. She has met our two big dogs and thinks she can square up to them--she hip hops right over to say “Hi” without hesitation. Winnie is all play and almost always the instigator of a wrestling session. She hops around like a little jumping bean and is very curious! Confident and willing to seek out new things. She’s not quite 2 lbs and built more compact than her sister so she appears smaller.” This sweet girl needs a family who is ready for puppy mode and has some small dog experience. Because she is so tiny, we don’t feel a home with toddlers or young kids is the best fit, but older kids who know how to handle a small puppy properly would be fine. Winnie would love to have a social, adult dog to learn from and play with in her new home..she has no fear! We will be bringing Winnie to town in mid-September. If you have a puppy-friendly schedule and are ready to potty train and teach basic obedience skills to a young, tiny puppy….Apply today! ***The puppies will not be adopted out together.*** Winnie is still too young to be spayed, but having her spayed at the appropriate age will be required as part of her adoption terms. We will require that proof of spay is provided to the rescue.   BREED ESTIMATE: Chihuahua Mix  GENDER: Female APPROXIMATE WEIGHT:  ~1.75 lbs APPROXIMATE AGE: 6 weeks (8/24/23) COAT TYPE:  Short and fuzzy ADOPTION FEE: $400 OTHER INFO: utd on shots/dewormed/microchipped  LOCATION: Ft. You can also help save dogs like this one by becoming a foster, providing a rescue dog with a temporary home and giving them the love and care they need until they are permanently adopted. Every person who fosters is directly responsible for saving the life of a dog, because we can only save as many dogs as we have foster families available to welcome them into their homes. If you think you might be interested in becoming a foster and want to learn more, please go to https://foster.worthydog.org and fill out an application. Worthy Dog Rescue is an all-volunteer, foster-based rescue that primarily adopts to families in the DC Metro area.
