Meet Bree (“Gina”) : Not at shelter (Bonnie)

Update, 1/15/25: Gina, whose name is actually Bree and from now on will be called Bree, is the sweetest little 12-year-old spayed mix imaginable. We got devastating news today when we got back the results of her bloodwork from last week. She is in stage two chronic kidney disease, and because we have no health history on her, we assume this is something that has been in the works for some time without treatment. She lost her human dad last week, and is now in a foster home where she is being loved while we determine the next course of action. We do need to start her immediately on sub-q fluids twice weekly as supportive care, and will also start feeding her special formulated kidney diet. Her foster mom loves her deeply, and realizes we may have a very difficult time finding her a home now that she has been diagnosed with this disease. It cannot be reversed, but we can manage to help her live longer through good care. We don’t often get special, needs cases like this, but when we do, we need time to  figure out the next piece of the long-term care puzzle. Please pray for us to make wise decisions as we move forward.       Gina is 12 to 14 years old, and was brought to us following the death of her owner. She was devastated to be by herself, and we are devastated that she no longer has her family to support her. we are still getting to know her, but a foster mom felt strongly that she needed to be cared for and warm for the past week, and has been spoiling her in her foster home. Gina is fine with other dogs, non-reactive cats, and is very responsive to being loved. She has seen a vet for bloodwork and we will soon have the results so we will know what long-term prognosis may be for her as an adopted pet.  PLEASE NOTE: This pet has been posted by Friends of Campbell County Animal Control, Rustburg, VA. For questions about the pet, please email us at [email protected]. All adoptions begin with an application, found under the "Animals" tab on our website, friendsofcampbellcounty.org. *Unaltered babies under the age of six months can be adopted only to residents of Campbell County, the City of Lynchburg, and counties touching Campbell County. *Unaltered adult pets six months or older will need to be sterilized before they can be adopted outside our local area of Campbell County, the City of Lynchburg, or counties touching Campbell. *We do not promote dog adoptions to homes where an invisible fence is the fencing of choice. *We do not permit cats or kittens to be declawed following adoption.

Adoption Process
Begin with an application to adopt. Other pets in household must be spay/neutered, current with rabies vaccines, dogs need to be current with HW testing and heartguard. Fees range between $75 and $300. We follow up on spays/neuters for pets under six months, and the fees include spay/neuter. Contract requires it. Adults are adopted out already spayed/neutered. Pets must be returned to FOAC if adoption ends.
