Worthy Dog Rescue

Worthy Dog Rescue is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to helping dogs in distress, especially those living on chains, in pens, or in neglectful and abusive situations. Our mission is to provide a better life for these dogs, while working to address the root problems of animal overpopulation and improve animal welfare. We do this through community outreach and by supporting and educating dog owners in underserved communities, by sponsoring spay and neuter programs, and by rescuing and rehabilitating dogs in need.

Meet Casper - ADOPTED!!!

Meet Casper also known as Ghost in his prior life. We are tweaking his name to give him a fresh start in his new life. This sweet little guy has had a tumultuous year. His owner died recently, and he ended up in the custody of a brother and sister-in-law who did not want him and had no emotional connection. They took him to one of our partner vets to have him euthanized right after his owner passed. Casper was suffering from severe dental disease, and his mouth was rife with infection, which made it painful to eat, so he was emaciated as a result. Other than his dental disease, he was a healthy senior pup with good bloodwork. It wasn’t his fault he had neglectful owners who didn’t properly care for him, and their neglect should not result in his death. Casper's dental issues were easily addressed, he has gained 4 lbs in just a matter of weeks, and he’s doing great. Thankfully, Casper had an advocate in Dr. Mocanu who refused to euthanize him and reached out to our rescue for help. Because of her advocacy, he’s living a happy, pain-free life today and has settled nicely into his foster home, where he lives comfortably with another dog and multiple cats. He’s not confrontational and is just a sweet little senior guy who wants to live out his golden years being loved and cared for. Caspher's foster mom describes him as a very mellow, submissive pup who likes to do his own thing. He never bothers the cats and will follow his new pup buddy around the house and snuggle with him. He doesn’t love being left alone, so a dog or cat buddy in his new home would be ideal. He’s not much of a barker, so he would be fine for condo life if there was easy access in and out. Casper has some diminished sight and hearing, which is typical with senior dogs. He can hear louder noises and follow objects with his eyes, and while he does not bump into anything when he walks, he struggles with depth perception, like going up and down stairs, and is more limited at night. He’s best in a home that has easy access in and out. Little Casper has good house manners if you keep him on a consistent schedule. He is not a big fan of the crate but can be left in a secure room or space without issue. He’s housetrained and never destructive. He needs regular potty breaks throughout the day — especially right after a nap. He also enjoys going for walks and has good leash-walking skills. Every once in a while, he’ll get an energy burst after he comes back in from a walk or potty break, and he’ll do a few zoomies before taking his next nap. He’s proven to be very good around young kids and is interested in meeting new people, but also can be a little hand-shy at first when you go to pet him :disappointed_relieved:. Still, once he realizes you are ok, he’s happy to have your affection and will give you kisses as his little nub of a tail will start wagging. His foster mom, Breanna, works in the vet hospital where he was rescued, and he’s been going to work with her every day, and everyone loves him. It’s been great for his socialization, and he’s been sweet with everyone. This sweet little senior deserves better than he’s had in life. He’s very live and let live and doesn’t take issue with anyone. He needs a caring family who will give him soft, comfy beds to nap in and lots of love to live out his golden years.
