ATOM NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!       Name:   Atom        Best Guess for Breed:   Shepherd mix   Best Guess for Age:    3 years as of January 2024      SEX:    Male   Approximate Weight:    39 lbs   Gets Along With:   Other dogs! Although Atom has not lived with children, he has done well with those kids he has met. Given what we have observed so far, however, we think he would do well in a home with kids. We have tested Atom with some of the cats at one of our adoption events, and he did not seem particularly interested in chasing or pouncing on the cat. While this is a positive sign that Atom could live with a cat, he has not done so to our knowledge. If you have cats in your home, we are happy to discuss with you how to best introduce a new pup to your pack!   Currently Living at:    DC area foster home   Special adoption considerations: Atom is a truly Lucky Dog!  He tested positive for Heartworm disease but has already been treated! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites.  Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. We are happy to talk more in depth about heartworm disease and treatment during the adoption counseling process.     Atom is Looking For:   Meet Atom, the charismatic canine companion with a heart as warm as his rich black and brown coat! If you're ready to embark on a journey filled with tail wags, unconditional love, and endless moments of joy, Atom is eagerly awaiting to join your family!!   What My Foster Says About Me:    Behavior: Loves/craves attention; good progress with outdoor potty training. (only one accident in the beginning but has been doing his business outside ever since)    Temperament: Extremely loyal, will follow you everywhere. Initially shy but quick to warm up; good with children (interacted well with my 10-year-old cousin); friendly with other dogs.Activity Level: Energetic and playful; enjoys interaction with people and playtime. Currently learning how to sit (I feel like he's 70% there). Adoption Process
1. Complete Adoption Application 2. Phone interview, vet check and home visit. 3. Contract signed (requirements include keeping a pet ID on dog at all times, keeping the dog as a pet, spaying/neutering puppies by 6 monts of age, returning the pet to Lucky Dog in the adopter cannot take care of it at any point in the future, and providing adequate vet care for the rest of the dog's life.
