Hi! I'm Annie! I'm just a baby, and my foster family really wonders where I spent my first few months. When I arrived at their house, I didn't seem to have ever seen anything--I didn't know much about being in a house. But I knew about sleeping in a people bed! I love that! In fact, I love to sleep next to foster dad's face. I actually would really like it if foster dad would wear me, like in one of those wraps moms sometimes wear their babies in. That would be ideal, because I cannot get close enough to him. I love him. I like the other people in the house, too, but foster dad is my favorite, and I want to be touching him at all times. Foster mom thinks I probably should have a dog buddy at my house, or I might get something called separation anxiety. She thinks that because I have occasionally howled when foster dad has gone to the bathroom and I didn't know where he was. Did I mention that foster dad is amazing? I'm doing pretty well with my housetraining, leashes are getting less scary, and life in general is getting less confusing. I'm tiny and looking forward to having my very own family!!
Adoption Process
We have a rigorous process whereby the applicant applies online and is carefully screened to ensure that all currently owned pets have been spayed/neutered and are up to date on vaccinations and on monthly heart worm meds. The applicant provides vet and personal refs and must demonstrate that he/she is capable and willing to commit to the dachshund for the rest of his/her life providing love, neutron, exercise, and appropriate veterinary care, and that a plan is established for what happens if the adopter can no longer care for the dachshund or if the dachshund outlives him/her. A home visit is required prior to being approved to adopt and if all goes well and the match is right, K Kids and the adopter execute an adoption agreement after the fee has been collected. Fees are $350 for puppies, $275 for adult dogs ages 1-7, and $150 for senior dogs ages 8 and older. Then the adopter can take possession of the dachshund. If he/she does not get the dachshund wanted, K Kids keeps the application on file for when a suitable match can be made.
