Meet Paulie. He was surrendered to the rescue by his elderly owner as the second of four pup siblings she needs to rehome. We believe these siblings are the product of an unaltered dog in her home and have offered to pay for spaying and basic vet care to avoid future litters. She declined but has allowed us to spay the now adult puppies so we don’t end up with additional litters. We’ve already rescued and rehomed one of her pups (Ringo), and now it’s Paulie’s turn. We plan to help with the remaining two dogs as foster homes become available. Paulie has been in his foster home for almost three weeks, living with a mom, dad, teen girl, four dogs, and two cats. He does great as part of a pack, gets along with all the dogs and cats, and plays well. He’s a confident pup who has NO PROBLEM getting in the middle of the big dogs and running with them — he’s not submissive or dominant, just a nice balance of confidence. When Paulie first arrived, he was his foster mom’s shadow, but as he’s settling in, he’s finding his independence. We’ve learned that Paulie needs to learn better house manners as he’s getting a lot more socialization in his foster home. In his prior home with an elderly owner and so many dogs, he didn’t have a lot of structure or exposure to the outside world. Fortunately, he’s a social boy by nature and really likes people, so we are focusing more on improving his manners. He’s now crate-trained and sleeps in the crate at night. His foster mom, Johanna, has even found him snoozing in it by choice during the day. He’s not reliably housetrained yet, so Johanna is keeping a leash on him in the home so she can watch him closely, doing frequent potty breaks. That has worked well, but you can’t trust him just yet. The next step is working on his leash skills and seeing how he does outside the home in more active, social situations. We expected his people greeting abilities to be good, but we want to see how he reacts in a more hectic environment. Updates to follow. Overall, Paulie is a sweet, cuddly pup who needs an owner with a bit of patience to settle him in. He has a naturally friendly good nature and a moderate energy level. He is social with dogs and cats and would be great with kids, too….an excellent family dog in the making. We plan to bring Paulie to town after the Thanksgiving holiday Apply today!
