Meet Thumper: Not at the shelter (Chantal)

When was the last time you saw a 9 pound dog with attitude? It took a while, but Thumper has decided it’s OK to have friends other than just your family members. He has finally warmed up to the volunteers and is eager to spend time with them. He hops on his back legs and begs for food, and sits nicely waiting for someone to give him treats. He is such a little doll! However, this little one comes with a tad bit of baggage and we need to be open and upfront about that before going further. it turns out he has a couple bites to his credit, both to his owners, and both because of the stress and pain he was under at the time of the bite. We have always forgiven dog bites that are caused by pain, but still feel it’s important to let people know. For this reason we are not comfortable placing him in a home with small children, and recommend children over the age of 10. we look forward to getting to know him better, and finding him just the right home! He loves running around outside exploring and would be best in the home where there is a fenced area for him to do this. He does appear to be housetrained, and now that he is neutered, we hope to see the attitude change for the better. He seems to be OK with other dogs and did not react when he has seen cats. He's in a foster home for further assessment at this time. PLEASE NOTE: This pet has been posted by Friends of Campbell County Animal Control, Rustburg, VA. For questions about the pet, please email us at [email protected]. All adoptions begin with an application, found under the "Animals" tab on our website, friendsofcampbellcounty.org. *Unaltered babies under the age of six months can be adopted only to residents of Campbell County, the City of Lynchburg, and counties touching Campbell County. *Unaltered adult pets six months or older will need to be sterilized before they can be adopted outside our local area of Campbell County, the City of Lynchburg, or counties touching Campbell. *We do not promote dog adoptions to homes where an invisible fence is the fencing of choice. *We do not permit cats or kittens to be declawed following adoption.

Adoption Process
Begin with an application to adopt. Other pets in household must be spay/neutered, current with rabies vaccines, dogs need to be current with HW testing and heartguard. Fees range between $75 and $300. We follow up on spays/neuters for pets under six months, and the fees include spay/neuter. Contract requires it. Adults are adopted out already spayed/neutered. Pets must be returned to FOAC if adoption ends.
