Meet Sloan. This gorgeous German Shepherd was purchased from a breeder specifically for sport dog training. Her current owner is a professional dog trainer who does behavioral and service dog training, but she has a passion for the GSD breed and planned to do rally work competitions with her. While Sloan is a naturally confident pup, she didn’t have the drive or intensity for sport dog training, so she’s been living as a well-trained family dog, sharing a home with kids, dogs, and kitties. We checked in with her mom for an update: ****** “Sloan is a confident, snuggly, loving, sweet-natured, and fun pup. She has wonderful manners and great social skills. She’s very easygoing, and just an all-around sweetheart. I introduced her to my male Shepherd, and they hit it off right away. From the start, she was fully integrated into my daily routine with my pups and it was seamless! She has never met a dog she didn’t like and is very respectful of dogs that come into our home for board & train. She’s particularly good with dogs who lack social skills, she picks up on their cues and does her own thing being very respectful of their space. I would describe Sloan as a more submissive girl who wants to please her person. She’s great with my dogs, kids, and cats too, and is very respectful. She has not had a lot of exposure to toddlers, so an occasional bump may happen, but again nothing is intentional, and if the kid cries, she comes right up to ‘check’ on them. She’s smart and knows basic commands like sit and down. She’s crate trained, house trained, walks nicely on leash, and has a wonderful recall. I can walk her with a slip lead for light pulling, but a light pop on the leash and she’s right back by my side. I trust her off-leash with me, but she would need time to build that bond with her new family to fully trust her. Sloan is an active dog but will modify her activity based on your energy. If I’m not feeling well or just relaxing, she follows my energy, but if I’m moving and having a good time playing or walking, she’s right there by my side. I feel she’s the best of both worlds in terms of her energy level. I think she would do well with an active family who understands her breed and wants to continue her training. She is best paired with someone who likes to go on walks and hikes, play ball, and do some fun training to keep up her manners. A backyard would be nice, but not required if they are active. While she loves her humans, I think she needs a dog friend or two in her home….She does really well as part of a pack.” ******* Sloan is a delightful pup, and she is going to make her new family very happy. She's been living with and loved by a trainer and has had a great start learning manners and basic obedience.
