MINDY NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Mindy Best Guess for Breed: Sheepdog and poodle mix Best Guess for Age: 3 years as of January 2025 Gender: Female Approximate Weight: 51 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen her with kids or cats but she can be tested if you have them. Currently Living At: Lucky Dog's South Carolina rescue campus - needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get up here after completing heartworm treatment Special Adoption Considerations: Mindy is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs. All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care. After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months. We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left! Mindy is Looking For: Her forever home! She along with her grown pups Buddy and Gingie landed in the shelter through no fault of their own. Mindy is eager to get her own humans for long sniffy walks, romps in parks, and world exploration. And quality kibble and a cushy dog bed. And definitely daily brushing and regular professional grooming - that coat is high maintenance and mats easily, and mats hurt. Most of all, though, she wants to be under her own roof, safe and loved. In exchange, she promises adoring gazes, happy tail wags, and loyal companionship for all her days. What do you say? Is this shaggy sweetie the one for your home and your heart? What My Foster Says About Me: We will update this after she has arrived in the DC area and spent some time with her foster Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.
