Meet Ashlee: Adoption pending

Ashlee welcomes the baths she is given, but her favorite part is when they are over, and she gets extra treats! We think she’s between eight and 12 years old, as her eyes are dim, and her hearing is not selective but is typical of seniors. She’s had a rough life with chronic flea allergy that remained untreated until she got to us. On occasion, she will chew her tail madly, so we are working on helping her remain itch free as much as possible. Already, the soothing lavender, chamomile shampoo and conditioner are helping. we enjoy passing by her kennel run, and seeing her stretched out on her bed enjoying a chance to snooze without scratching. She is scheduled for a Dentistry on Tuesday this coming week, and then we hope she can get into a foster home or an adoptive home until her skin is healed and she can be spayed. Gorgeous Ashlee greatly appreciates the attention she gets, and as a senior hound, 8 to 12 years old with dimmed eyes and some hearing loss, she deserves every bit of it. She spent a few days at the vet while we were getting our act together at the shelter, and she was only slightly spoiled while she was there. Here’s what we found out: *Underweight—no surprise there.  *slight possibility of a heart murmur, but a recheck is in order after she has put on some weight.  *Bad tartar and dental disease.  *4Dx was all negative except for anaplasma. *Skin scrape negative.  *Skin problems probably due to years of flea allergy gone untreated.  Treatment:  *Good food (and LOTS! she says!)  *weekly oatmeal bath and conditioner and keep her flea-free *Dentistry scheduled for this coming week.  “Sweet dog. Very stoic.” Who loves stoicism?? I do, I do!   PLEASE NOTE: This pet has been posted by Friends of Campbell County Animal Control, Rustburg, VA. For questions about the pet, please email us at [email protected]. All adoptions begin with an application, found under the "Animals" tab on our website, friendsofcampbellcounty.org. *Unaltered babies under the age of six months can be adopted only to residents of Campbell County, the City of Lynchburg, and counties touching Campbell County. *Unaltered adult pets six months or older will need to be sterilized before they can be adopted outside our local area of Campbell County, the City of Lynchburg, or counties touching Campbell. *We do not promote dog adoptions to homes where an invisible fence is the fencing of choice. *We do not permit cats or kittens to be declawed following adoption.

Adoption Process
Begin with an application to adopt. Other pets in household must be spay/neutered, current with rabies vaccines, dogs need to be current with HW testing and heartguard. Fees range between $75 and $300. We follow up on spays/neuters for pets under six months, and the fees include spay/neuter. Contract requires it. Adults are adopted out already spayed/neutered. Pets must be returned to FOAC if adoption ends.
