Central Virginia Regional Rescue

My name is Laura and I am the president of CVRR. For 5 years I was the dog coordinator and board member for the Humane Society for Campbell County, where we had one of the largest and most respected foster-care-based rescues in the region. I have been a veterinary technician for 15 years. I have also been a trainer and behaviorist for 10+ years. My volunteers and I pulled away from HSCC because of a varying value system and different long-term goals, to create an organization based on a totally volunteer-run administration where every dollar goes to the animals' care. Educational outreach is also of paramount importance. Rescue has been a huge part of my life and my family's life, and we love having the opportunity to not only help animals get a well-deserved second chance but also play a part in completing a family with a new furry addition. Many volunteers in the rescue world I have found are very much animal people, but I enjoy the human aspect nearly as much as the opportunity to advocate for animals.

Meet Indy

Indiana, affectionately known as Indy, is a handsome 1-year-old Foxhound/Cattle Dog mix weighing about 50 pounds. With his boundless energy, loving nature, and playful personality, he’s ready to be your most devoted companion! What Indy Loves: Playing tug-of-war and fetch—especially with a tennis ball! Exploring the yard and running off his energy in a safe space. Snuggling up with his favorite humans after a fun day of play. Learning! He’s smart, eager to please, and working hard on his manners. The Perfect Home for Indy: Indy thrives in a calm, structured environment where he’s the only pet. He’s incredibly affectionate with people and loves children, though his enthusiasm might be a bit much for very young kids. A home with a securely fenced yard or a rural setting where he has space to run would be ideal. Special Considerations: Indy has some anxiety and is reactive toward other dogs, so he’ll need a patient and understanding owner willing to continue his training. His current family has been working with a trainer and is even offering to cover the first couple of months of private training for his new home to help him succeed! Indy is fully house-trained, crate-trained, neutered, and up-to-date on all vaccinations. He’s an incredibly loyal dog who just needs the right environment to thrive. Could you be the one to give Indy the safe and loving forever home he deserves? If you’re looking for a devoted companion and are ready to help him become his best self, he’s ready to love you in return!      CVRR is listing this dog as a COURTESY to the actual owner. This dog is not currently in the care of CVRR, and CVRR makes no representations or guarantees for the animal's behavior, demeanor, or health assessment. All information listed has been given by the dog's current owner and should be verified by any interested potential adopter.

Adoption Process
We have an extensive application process where veterinary references are checked (we require all current and past animals have been altered and that the client shows a history of good vet care) and we has a number of questions targeted at encouraging the adopting family to really consider if they are ready financially and emotionally to support an animal life long. We also try to match the right animal with the right home with consideration to the adopters previous animal experience, energy level, and general personality. After reviewing and approving and applicant (on paper), we meet with them and all members of their house hold including other resident dogs. We offer one week trials to ensure this decision is in the best interest of both human and animal. If all parties are confident upon meeting, then we have a contract which also states that if any anytime they are unable to keep the animal, that they will return in to our organization. Adoption fees vary from $100-275 based on age, size, and breed, with $175 as an average.
