Humane Society of Washington County, TN

The Appalachian Highlands Humane Society promotes Spay/Neuter. We pull animals from our local animal shelter and place them in foster care, give them any medical attention they need, spay/neuter prior to adoptions. We also, review craigslist on a daily basis and contact individuals listing "free" puppies, dogs, cats and kittens in an effort to get them to surrender to us and attempt to educate these individuals about spay/neuter and the danger of listing free animals. Along with our foster animals, we take animals currently residing in our local shelter to adoption events.

Meet Xena

Introducing Xena! She is an affectionate, calm, and submissive dog. At three years old and around 70 pounds, she's pretty calm and will play with a ball or toys for short periods of time. This gal is more about hanging out with her people and taking it easy. She's highly intelligent and has been thoroughly trained. She's a leash walking pro, knows basic obedience, and is totally crate and house trained.   Xena is good with all dogs but would do best with a dog that is more laid-back/submissive. Shepherd experience is not required but would be a bonus when it comes to adopting Miss Xena! Xena would prefer a home with either no children or kids over the age of 14. She would be a great walking or hiking partner and enjoys car rides and public outings.  Once Xena knows you, she is a wonderful, confident companion. We are looking for someone willing to give Xena time, patience, and understanding. Xena will qualify for a "trial adoption" with any adopter willing to give her a chance.  To apply, visit https://www.ahhumanesociety.org/dog-adoption-application/ or email [email protected] with any questions!

Adoption Process
$50.00 for cats and kittens, dogs range from $150.00 to $275.00. We have adoption applications and contracts for potential adopters to complete. Vet references are checked and home visits on some animals are required.
