Meet Pearl: at the shelter-Sponsored
Pearl is searching for a new home. She is one who has had wonderful veterinary care and is spayed, microchipped, and current with vaccines. She is used to using a doggie door so she can potty when she needs to, and she has lived where there has been a fenced-in yard, so being at the shelter is really difficult for her. She has been around many other dogs, so that is not an issue for her. But when the other dogs bark at her and charge her because she is new, it makes her very upset. Today, we welcomed her to one-on-one quiet time in the office where the volunteers gave her isolation time, and told her how beautiful she is. We believe in “positive affirmation” modeled after one of our favorite rescuers, Rocky Kanala. The good news is that for dogs like Pearl there is almost always an upswing in confidence when we say the words “Good girl!” She was definitely responsive when she heard familiar words today. To help Pearl, you can offer words of wisdom in your own home. Pearl has not been around children nor cats. All adoptions begin with an application, found under the "Animals" tab on our website, friendsofcampbellcounty.org. *Unaltered babies under the age of six months can be adopted only to residents of Campbell County, the City of Lynchburg, and counties touching Campbell County. *Unaltered adult pets six months or older will need to be sterilized before they can be adopted outside our local area of Campbell County, the City of Lynchburg, or counties touching Campbell. *We do not promote dog adoptions to homes where an invisible fence is the fencing of choice. *We do not permit cats or kittens to be declawed following adoption.
Adoption Process
Begin with an application to adopt. Other pets in household must be spay/neutered, current with rabies vaccines, dogs need to be current with HW testing and heartguard. Fees range between $75 and $300. We follow up on spays/neuters for pets under six months, and the fees include spay/neuter. Contract requires it. Adults are adopted out already spayed/neutered. Pets must be returned to FOAC if adoption ends.
