COSTELLO NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name:    Costello       Best Guess for Breed:    Chihuahua/Terrier mix Best Guess for Age:    6 years, 5 months as of Jan. 2025       Gender:    Male Approximate Weight:    13.7 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven’t seen Costello with cats but he can be tested if you have them! We would be cautious placing Costello in a home with children under 12 years old because young kids can often scare small breed dogs with their level of energy or noise.  Children would need to be supervised closely to ensure their interactions with the dog are calm and gentle in nature.  We would be happy to discuss this more in depth with any applicant.   Currently Living At: South Carolina shelter - Costello needs a foster or adopter to make his way to the DC area Special Adoption Considerations: Costello  is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs.  All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care.  After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months.  We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Whether it’s relaxing on the couch, taking a leisurely stroll, or just enjoying your company, Costello will be right by your side, making every moment better. At 6 years old, he’s past the puppy stage but still has plenty of life and love to share. Costello is looking for a family who will appreciate his sweet spirit and offer him the cozy, loving home he deserves. Adoption Process
1. Complete Adoption Application 2. Phone interview, vet check and home visit. 3. Contract signed (requirements include keeping a pet ID on dog at all times, keeping the dog as a pet, spaying/neutering puppies by 6 monts of age, returning the pet to Lucky Dog in the adopter cannot take care of it at any point in the future, and providing adequate vet care for the rest of the dog's life.
