New Rattitude, Inc.

New Rattitude is a national, all-volunteer non-profit rescue/adoption agency whose mission is to rescue Rat Terriers (and mixes that are predominantly Rat Terrier) from imminent death at animal shelters, the streets, abusive/neglectful homes, or from owners who can no longer keep a dog, and to rehome the dogs into new and permanent, screened and approved adoptive homes. Each dog rescued is cared for in a safe and nurturing foster care environment where he or she receives appropriate medical care, a high quality diet, training and socialization. To achieve these ends, the organization is involved with transportation, volunteer recruiting and training, mentoring, fund-raising, and establishing and maintaining other programs deemed helpful to achieving the mission of rescuing and re-homing Rat Terriers.

Meet Andy (VA)

Andy is a spunky, 1.5 years old, 18 lbs. rat terrier mix. He was brought to the rescue as a stray and is currently spending his time at his foster parent's boarding and training facility. When Andy first entered his foster home, he was overwhelmed by all the new things and the constant change of dogs each day. Since then, he has learned better coping behavior and is no longer afraid. Andy will need additional training and socialization if his adopters intend to take him to public places where he will meet new dogs and people. He may bark and jump when over-excited and his greeting behavior can be read as aggressive to some dogs. However, he is improving with training that will need to be continued. Once people and dogs are no longer "new" to him he is a good friend and playmate.     Andy is VERY trainable and wants to do the things his people ask him to do. His foster parents think that he may do okay in a home with cats with close management and boundary setting. He is house-trained and has had no accidents in his crate or in the dog room of the boarding facility, though he would like to be let out often while he's new with you.   Andy loves to snuggle and will rub against you like a cat. He walks nicely on leash and comes to his name, and is ready to learn more. He's a great young boy with a happy future ahead of him once he finds his forever home!   Due to Andy's reactivity, his adopter must live within 3 hours of his foster home in Piney River, VA. An in-person meeting is preferred prior to finalizing the adoption to ensure the adopter understands Andy's continued training and socialization needs.  See more photos of Andy here: https://imageevent.com/newrattitude/andy.
