Meet Dora

Animal Profile: Dora is a young female pup joining us from Hawaii to find her forever home. We think she's around 8 months old and weighs 38lbs. Our rescue partner describes her as a "total soft dog and so meltingly sweet." She is deaf or nearly deaf, and though initially shy at the shelter she has blossomed with care into a lovely girl who passes all evaluations with zero adverse behaviors and mellow demeanor.  Foster Update:   Dora is settling in so well with us.  She’s one of the cutest little dogs you’ll ever see, and craves your attention! She is deaf, which comes with its own set of challenges, but we’re finding it has its benefits as well. She is very responsive to hand signals in training, and wants to be near her people, often checking in to make sure that we’re still there. Because she can’t hear, she'll need adopters who can show her what is safe and what is scary, and who will be committed to her training.  On the other hand, Dora is not scared of fireworks, vacuums, or the sounds of the neighborhood. She stays asleep in her crate when we get home, and when we get up in the morning, then needs to be woken gently so that she does not startle. Her lack of hearing suits her gentle way of being well, and with some love and patience won’t be a hindrance to her ability to live a happy, full life.   When she isn’t trying to get you to play with her, Dora is happy to chew on a soft toy by herself, or play sniffing games. For her age, we think about 8 months, she does remarkably well in her crate. She’ll cry for a couple minutes when put in, but then settles well, and relaxes quietly.  She sleeps soundly through the night, and is quiet in her crate until we let her out in the morning for her walk.  After a couple days getting comfortable in our neighborhood Dora is on a good potty schedule.   Like any good puppy, Dora is exploring the world with her mouth, but does so gently, and is responsive to redirection. She is also very curious to sniff on walks, but is not reactive to other dogs or people, and is starting to develop her leash manners.  Although we haven’t taken her yet, we think she will be an awesome dog for a hike or camping trip. She’ll rely on her people to keep her close, and stay connected, but she’ll love spending some of her energy in nature!   Overall Dora is a happy, gentle girl, who will bring A TON of life to whatever home she ends up in.  Adoption Info: Adoption fee is $550 which includes spay/neuter, core vaccinations per AVMA standards, heartworm test if applicable, microchip with registration, andhealth certificate. Your adoption fee may be tax deductible as DGS is a 501c3 organization. All adoption fees go toward the care of all dogs in our rescue.  Apply Online: www.DogGoneSeattle.org/adoption-application Animal History: This dog was rescued from Hawaii thru our rescue partner Three Ring Ranch, and will be arriving to Seattle area foster care on January 2, 2025. We will share more info as we get to know her in foster care.
