Animal Profile: Mia is an estimated 4-year-old, 9 lb Chihuahua mix. She was rescued from Stanislaus Animal Services, where she was at risk for euthanasia due to space. Mia was nervous in the kennel, but grateful for some one-on-one time with shelter volunteers. She is people and dog friendly. Foster Update: Mia has an incredibly sweet disposition. She tends to be a little hesitant with new people, but once she trusts you, she is your best friend. Each day we see more of her fun, friendly personality emerging. Mia loves her crate and willingly hangs out and sleeps quietly in it. We have yet to hear her bark, but she is very interested when someone comes to the door or enters the house. I’m certain there is a “voice” in that tiny body somewhere. She loves to go for walks! Mia gets very excited when you get her leash and comes immediately allowing it to be attached. She has been a bit reserved when meeting neighborhood dogs and their people but absolutely no aggression is evident. She tends to “wander” from side to side during our outings but consistent walks and leash work will resolve this tendency quickly. Mia was very interested in my 6 year old grandson but was quite leary of his quick movements and running feet. I believe she will be most successful in a home with dog savvy children, perhaps 8-10 or older. A doggy companion would be nice but I don’t believe it is necessary. While she gets along well with my resident golden retriever, she seems to prefer people. Condo or apartment life would suit her as well. House training has not been an issue. Mia potties quickly in the backyard and also potties well on leash. Mia appears to be a pup who will adapt to and be successful in a variety of homes. I could see her becoming a great office dog but even more importantly, a wonderful companion and family member! If you’re looking for a compact pup, don’t overlook this little blonde beauty!
