Animal Profile: Meadow is an estimated 4-year-old, 25 lb female red tick heeler (best guess), picked up as a stray on the big island of Hawaii and at the shelter she did well with other dogs and was non-reactive to cats in the cattery (shelter cat test). She is being transferred to DGS to find her forever home on the mainland. Shelter Assessment: Meadow is excited in her kennel, tail wagging and offs good eye contact. She is easy to leash up and not sensitive to handling. She is not reactive to reactive dogs and offers appropriate greetings to friendly dogs on leash. She rides well in the car. In the yard with other dogs she is tentative but social; she is energetic and will need an outlet to run and play. On cat test he was shy and stepped away, and she ignored a pig in the yard so she doesn't appear to have high prey drive. She is praise motivated and did not show behaviors that would be concerning in a home with children. Seattle Foster Update: Meadow is a sweet girl who looks to her human for reassurance and guidance. She is smart and eager to please and would be a great agility dog. While she is a petite gal, she is very much a heeler and someone with breed experience would be a plus -- she has her "person" and will velcro to them. She is still a bit nervous, loud sounds and sudden movements make her wary, so a home outside the city is preferred. She walks well on the leash and we are working on her crate manners as well as her neediness -- some of this is her breed and some is her life experience. She would do fine with another dog that liked to cuddle, but her main focus is her human. She makes lots of eye contact and check ins. She would be ok in a home with dog respectful children 10+ and she passed her cat test. She is going to be someone's best friend for life!!
