Animal Profile: Toddy is an approximately 18-month-old 14lb neutered male Chihuahua mix joining us from Fresno Shelter in CA on 12/17. Foster Update: Meet Toddy! If you’re looking for a dog that will brighten your days and love you with all his heart, Toddy is your guy! A super-sweet, 1.5 year old Chihuahua mix, Toddy’s tail is in constant wag mode. After a few weeks of decompressing, he’s turned into a funny, wonderfully goofy and playful guy. And, at 14 pounds, he’s just the right size—small enough to sit in your lap and give you hugs, but big enough to be your adventure partner. Toddy absolutely LOVES going for long walks, and I think he’d be a great hiking or running buddy. When we are out and about, if we run into other people or dogs, he goes into major tail wag mode, hoping he’s going to make some new friends. And, the number one comment he gets is “what a sweet dog!” Toddy does really well in his crate overnight, and he will signal when he needs to go out (we’ve had no accidents). Despite arriving quite timid and fearful, he has really blossomed in the time he’s been with me. He’s learning how to walk on a leash, how to love riding in the car, and he’s recently discovered how much fun toys can be. He does need work on basic commands such as sit, come, down, etc. Like most Chihuahuas, he is not super food-motivated, but does really well with human attention as his motivation. Being such an affectionate guy, Toddy would be a great companion for someone who works from home or is just home more than they are away. Due to his active side, Toddy would love having some yard space to play and romp in (though not a total deal breaker with an active lifestyle), and I think he would benefit from—and love—another canine companion in the home. Adoption Info: Adoption fee is $550 which includes spay/neuter, core vaccinations per AVMA standards, heartworm test if applicable, microchip with registration, and health certificate.
