Meet Bella Star

Animal Profile: Bella was found running in traffic in Turlock, but luckily wound up at animal services instead of meeting an untimely demise. She’s dog friendly, and social with people but has little experience on leash. She’s estimated to be 5 years old and weighs 15lbs. Check out her   Foster Update: With her scruffy fur, short legs, and round body, and endearing underbite, Bella looks like an adorable Terrier + Corgi + Pekinese mix. There really is no cure for the crush you’re going to have on her, except, of course, making her yours.  The day Bella and I met, she was straight off a 15ish hours in a transport van with lots of other dogs. When we got to mt home, she happily jumped out of the car, sniffed my yard, relieved herself, drank some water, then easily went into her crate for a long nap. Later that day, she even allowed me to bathe and brush her without any resistance. So, I thought, “Great! She’s a very go-with-the-flow little dog.” But as she’s decompressed, she’s proven to be more anxious around other people and dogs than I expected. Ultimately, she is a remarkably sweet, loving little dog, but she needs a home that will give her the time and structure that she needs to feel safe and happy.  And since she can be  bossy  with other dogs, she needs to be the only dog in the home.  Bella does really well in her crate overnight, and for naps during the day. We have had no accidents, and she does really well going in and out via the doggie door. On the few short walks we’ve taken (again, couch potato), she’s done pretty well on the leash but does stop a lot and will crisscross in front of you. And while she may not be a  big fan of walks (maybe it’s those short legs), she really loves being out in the sun, rolling around or sniffing everything.   Bella  does  well in the car and seems to enjoy going for a ride. She will bark if she hears something outside but is less barky than most small dogs I have fostered (that could always change as she’s in a home longer). In the brief time that I’ve had her, we’ve been working on name recognition, and some basic commands but she will need continued work on both. I promise that Bella will make you smile and fill you with joy every single day.            Adoption Info: Adoption fee is $550, which includes spay/neuter, current vaccinations per AVMA standards, microchip, negative heartworm test if over 6 months, and health certificate.
